Theres some big fallout from the meeting in Washington of the Conservative Political Action Conference, three days of conferencing, caucusing, presidential addressing and book-hawking. These conferences have historically been known for displaying what its own organizers would describe as over-the-top behavior, and one of the regular speakers Ann Coulter offered an example of it when she used an anti-gay epithet on Friday to describe John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina and Democratic presidential contender. I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot, so I so kind of an impasse, cant really talk about Edwards, she said, speaking to an overflow room of activists. That rehab remark was apparently a reference to Isaiah Washington, one of the stars on Greys Anatomy, a television series, who called a co-star T.R. Knight anti-gay names and went to rehabilitation over it. Mr. Edwardss campaign quickly responded. John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power, said his campaign manager, David Bonior. Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulters resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion.
Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said: There is no place in political discourse for this kind of hate-filled and bigoted comments. While Democrats and Republicans may disagree on the issues, we should all be able to agree that this kind of vile rhetoric is out of bounds.

Comparing Ann to Fred Phelps shows you have no discernment between good and evil
I don't belong to that group. Can ya post the relevant part?
There is no fallout, just pandering liberals all upset. Ann did nothing wrong.
This is a non-story.
The fallout is that everyone in America will think of faggot when they see Edwards.
What's amazing is that, for all her controversy, I find Ann Coulter's speeches to be for the most part very dull. I have seen her in person about a dozen times. Once she followed Phyllis Schlafly, who was so graceful yet tough, and dignified--in the Reagan/Thatcher mold. Then followed Coulter, with a pedestrian, whiny, somewhat profane speech that left the entire room flat. She seems to be saying "look at me" with most of what she says in speeches. I enjoy her writing much more. In this case, she managed to make the entire CPAC conference about one thing--HER. And that does a disservice to the candidates who worked so hard to get press for their campaigns.
I don't have any problem with anything Ann says. Granted, she's a bomb thrower... well, GOOD. The hypocritical, politically correct RATS are our ENEMY and they DESERVE some (verbal) bombs thrown at them.
That's what amazes me about so many anti-Ann comments from the crowd here... as if there's something bad about saying something that pisses off people we don't like - well, who CARES is they're pissed off? Piss them off MORE... I enjoy seeing hypocritical sideshows such as Comrade Howard ranting against "hate speech"...
Yes it is a total non-story. Pandering in the MSM to 1% of the population.
Thats part of Ann's brilliance.
I disagree. She just went up 3 notches in esteem, in my eyes.
Not for those who easily get the vapors though.
Why? Because she eclipsed all the GOP candidates and gave the dying candidacy of Edwards a boost? What was the purpose of her comment? The comment itself doesn't bother me, but why focus the MSM on that? I would rather have had the CPAC conference expose the American people to some really good speeches by people such as Duncan Hunter and Romney.
If you think that is a boost to Edwards you are smoking something. He'll be known as John "F" Edwards from now on. Ann is Ann. She is not on anyone's campaign staff. She can say whatever she wants. ANytime, anyplace. Has said equally provocative things at each CPAC convention. There might be some candidates that worry because they wanted the homo vote, but I'm willing to bet the others could care less.
Oh yeah!
And just who is this CPAC that loves her?
Ann Coulter, Shield Maiden of the GOP...
The same folks that have invited her back again and again. She's a helluva lot more poular than most of the guys trying to be president. She was mobbed there.
No doubt crude crass and vulgar has it's appeal.
