You may want to bone up on your geography.

I think you mean sports not geography. superdome, astrodome. What's the difference. It's what they are for not where they are. No, I won't bone up on sports.

No, you are correct. They built a Marina, among other things....The levee board is among the most corrupt organizations in NO, and is really just the tip of the iceberg.

How the hell much money have we already spent on NO, and how much is budgeted for the future? We might be better off if we settled at 77 billion than what we've already decided to spend.

"I thought I remember hearing money was allocated to fix levees, but state and/or local officials spent it elsewhere. Am I mistaken?"

I have heard that as well but have no first hand knowledge of that. Often, the Corps will pay a portion and the locals will pay a portion, depending on the project. If the locals don't make good, projects don't get completed or get scaled down.

The Corps hold yearly budget hearings via VTC. First with the tthen with Washington. They remind me of hungry baby birds after Mom lands in the nest with a fat worm. ;-) I have been privy to a few of these. In one, New Orleans District wanted to crank off a decent sized levee project that went significantly beyond normal maintenance and allocated funds for maintenance. The "environmental impact" and and politicians with other plans for that money prevented that from happening.

I wish there was a way to prevent my tax dollars from going to it.

Oops. First with the DISTRICTS then with Washington.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is. The rats have definately taken over the ship in that corrupt and depraved city. We used to go there occasionally (it's about a 3 hour drive to the French Quarter from here) but that place had become such a seething cesspool of crime and depravity it was just not worth the 6 hours on the road anymore. I have not been to a Mardi Gras there in over 20 years. Forget going to Algiers. No sane white person would ever venture across the bridge to that pit any more.

The idiots who live in NO have decided that they liked what they had BEFORE the floods, they want more of it AFTER the floods.

As far as I'm concerned, they should be left on their own. Sort of like the sort of idiots who build their houses on a flood plain! Hey, they ARE those sort of idiots! Building a city on ground BELOW sea level, right next to the ocean and on a river!

Mark

Wow. What a great way to advertise your city as a "cesspool".

Great PR move Nagan.

Continuing to prove your level of stupidity to discerning people everywhere.

Back in the 70's the Corps of Engineers wanted to build flood gates on that big lake by New Orleans. The environmentalists threw a fit and it was never built. Until it is built I say New Orleans is a lost cause.

The environmentalists are the ones who are to blame and should be sued.

If I remember correctly, the Corps TRIED to fix the levees in the Ninth Ward, and some folks complained about the noise and disruption, and went to court to STOP the work. Sounds like Mr. Nagin ought to look into that before he considers some big old lawsuit claiming negligence on the part of the Corps.

Perhaps they should look into the enviromental impact of a city built in wetlands vs a levy next time.

I would think New Orleans is a far worse enviromental impact than a natural swamp.

"where do these people think the corps of engineers get their money?"

Well, it isn't from the career welfare trash that live there.

This is awesome.

Now all of NO's neglect of the levees, and re-direction of funds, will come to light in open court.

Sure, Blanco might buy a local judge...but eventually it will come to a fair court, and then...oh and then....indictments to follow?
