The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division (1-3ID)is currently engaged in street to street fighting in central Ramadi. The much anticipated attack follows months of hands off policy as troops were routinely sniped and attacked with orders not to retaliate.
After much planning U.S. forces along with a collection of hired local tribesmen from nearby Sofia (a suburb of Ramadi) and other groups are attacking and clearing the are house by house. The tribes have been formed into paramilitary units called "Emergency Response Units" and are linked with U.S. troops.
The 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (1-9), 2nd Infantry Division has been given the dirty job of house to house combat in Ramadi's center. Many of the houses have been booby trapped in anticipation of the attack. The U.S. Military estimates that there are around 60 insurgents remaining in the area of 15,000 people. Initial estimates put the insurgent numbers at between 100 and 200.

Because going room-to-room is the only way you can be certain of having gotten them all.
"I suggested we should flatten buildings..."I get your point and agree.A well aimed 500lb'er would do the trick.Unfortunately PC'ness dictates no unnecessary civilian casualties.
Gen. Patton's granddaughter? I know one of them. Does her name start with an M? The one I know should be a general, cuz she's a real *****, LOL!
God bless and protect our troops, and give them victory!

Sounds like her! She was quite nice, actually, though she was a little weak on radical Islam. Can't remember her first name, she is tall, blonde, slim, rather attractive, and a very good public speaker.
AMEN to this prayer. They are the best of us.
Well, the one I knew was short, not blonde but brown hair, and I wouldn't call her skinny. So it must be a different person. She looked a lot like Patton in the face, though, especially the eyes! And she could swear real good, LOL!
Thoughts of joe terrorist: "Well, for every one of us they kill, we will kill 10 of our own people, especially women and children. Yeah, that will show them."
God speed to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment (1-9), 2nd Infantry Division. Prayers for your safety and success of mission.
Pay them by the scalp.
Part of our problem over there is that they have a perception that we don't have the guts to finish this. A bomb taking them out is not what they respect.
What do you think they really consider shock and awe... A missile that can get them through a window or men who can be more brutal in combat than they are?
Also, I agree aviation leaves no prisoners, but you better have boots on the ground to make sure the rubble doesn't get re-populated.
That being said, you need to know that we wouldn't be here years later if we were the ones setting the rules of engagement.
"It always made me mad to have to beg for opportunities to win battles." General George S. Patton
I do wish we would use a Neutron bomb or two.

I'm all for it!

Screw all that boots on the ground stuff. B-52's - B-2's and B-1's 24/7 for 2 years. Start at the four ends and work your way in. Collateral damage be damned. I'm not worried about respect, I want to see bodies being vaporized day after day for months until nothing lives - that my friend is brutality. That would end Islam.
Again, I simply don't like telling our guys to walk through a door to a target that somebody else can reduce relatively safely. You know as well as I do it's not so they can look macho to the jihadis, it's so the jihadis don't get maaaad at us for blowing up their hovels. I'm not talking strategy here, I'm not talking about reducing our boots on the ground in any way, I'm simply discussing what the best tactical means of neutralizing a given city block is.
If that was done in December 2004, perhaps we would be on the edge of winning in Iraq and perhaps the midterm elections in 2006 wouldn't had turned into a bloodbath.
