Thank you very much!

Just last month, an anonymous commentator lamented on the conservative Web site Free Republic, "She's a Marxist. Saul Alinsky's student. I sure wish we could unearth that sealed thesis of hers that she wrote at Wellesley."

hehehe

It's a political page, not a self-help or counselling board.

You have to expect that if you post about an issue, people are going to comment on the politics of it. Sure, the smart ones would recognize a particular post wasn't that kind of post, and ignore it, but not everybody is very astute.

For example, a month or so ago there was a post about a child who was killed crossing a busy highway on a field trip. The post was a news article, that suggested a suit might be filed and that the school system wasn't giving information and might be culpable.

So of course some freepers chimed in about personal responsibility and how kids should be smart enough and some made their stupid "darwin" comments.

None of those posters noticed that the poster was actually the parent of the child who had been killed -- you had to read the 1st post comment very carefully to pick that up.

Some would argue that the truth is the truth regardless of who it hurts, and I won't fault them for it on a political board like this, although I would counsel them to have some feeling.

But if you are looking for a hug-fest, this probably isn't the place for it.

I'm amazed at the number of freepers who dislike all the candidates. But they sure support the candidates who aren't running and have high negative polling numbers.

My post was entirely political. There is no public policy component to not liking homosexuals. I'm sorry you missed that, I'll try to be clearer next time.

Bingo! That has always bothered me by some people when they talk about people being draft dodgers. To me draft dodgers went to Canada and other places when called up or lied to get a deferrment. Anyone else was not a draft dodger no matter what these people on here want to say.

The same could be said for the supporters of Mayor Giuliani that have posted vicious, shrill messages calling anyone who disagrees with their candidate names....Look at the last 3 pages of this thread - even if someone questions the Mayor's positions on gun control, abortion, or McCain-Feingold, they get shouted down and called names....One poster spits on those who think abortion is an important issue. Another one appears to hate those who put their religious faith above their political party and even gloats about it....I think the supporters of Mayor Giuliani have been far more hateful and angry than those who question his positions and level of conservativeness (with the exception of MadIvan, who does post thoughtfully and argues facts, not emotions).

MadIvan's OK

I can't agree with that.

There's plenty of individual name calling on both sides, typical of spats.

But there have been broad based characterizations of Rudy's supporters as promoting homosexuality, abortionists, traitors, et al. I haven't seen that from the other side.

And that's not true. Most simply consider the wot, leadership, and/or fiscal issues a priority.

Fortunately I haven't seen the anti-Rudy's nameing the anti-Guiliani true conservative candidate they expect to emerge and slay Rudy. I'd hate to see anyone in the race tarred by association.

At first I thought that sounded like onyx, but I wasn't sure. LOL

I had to do a little Googling for the quote, someone else found it without Googling before I did. LOL

It's a liberal's idea of what a candidate should say to a conservative audience.

..except for a few of his Kool-Aid drinkers, most of that CPAC crowd knows it too...

He's also one of the best fiscal conservatives we've ever had.

Because Romney is the GOP's version of John Kerry. He says he is what he believes the voters want him to be, not who he really is.... most of us see through the good looks to who he really is: another Massachusetts flip-flopper.

IMO I trust a man who refuses to refute what he personally believes to gain a few votes, I prefer someone who says this is who I am, warts and all, take me or leave me.

I know. It's a pretty smart bunch. The ones I worry about though, are the large number of young poeple who get sucked in by phonies like that.

He worked in the Reagan justice department, you annoying trolling twit.

You are certainly free to disagree with Spiff with respect to Guilliani -- as I do -- but at least show a little respect. Spiff has been a loyal member of FR for almost a decade, and is not a troll by any standard.

I didn't serve either. I had a low draft number, but had student deferments. By the time I graduated, the Vietnam War was over, and I didn't bother looking at enlisting. In retrospect, not serving in the military was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I wish I could have a do-over.

My mom's older brother didn't get drafted. He volunteered. He served two tours, ended up with a permanent hip injury.

Those folks are often overlooked too.
