I didn't serve either. I had a low draft number, but had student deferments. By the time I graduated, the Vietnam War was over, and I didn't bother looking at enlisting. In retrospect, not serving in the military was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I wish I could have a do-over.

I had a deferment for 18 months, but later volunteered for the draft. (There were real advantages in doing this as opposed to a full enlistment)

I don't regret either choice.

If I had to do it all over again I would have joined the civil service. I just never thought I could get into the service with two disabilities.
