:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Senior Taliban leader held in Pakistan
-Full Story-

Pakistani security forces have captured a high-ranking Taliban leader in the southwestern city of Quetta, a senior security official and Taliban sources said late Thursday

The capture of Mullah Obaidullah Akhund marked the first Pakistan arrest of a senior leader of the Islamist militia since it was driven from power in Afghanistan in 2001 when thousands of its fighters fled into Pakistan.

The security official and Taliban sources said Akhund, the third most senior member of the Taliban's 10-member leadership council, was arrested late on Monday, hours after a surprise visit to Pakistan by U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Gaza Strip: Islamic Jihad member dies in blast
al Bawaba ^ | March 19 2007

Posted on 03/19/2007 3:15:19 PM PDT by knighthawk

A blast ripped through the house of an Islamic Jihad member in the Gaza Strip on Monday, killing him and injuring at least nine people, hospital workers and residents said.

The victim, a member of Islamic Jihad's armed wing, was identified as Ala al-Hessi. The blast was reported in the Shati refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. It was reported in a densely populated area, near the United Nation's food distribution warehouse.

Israel has denied any involvement in the incident. "We are not aware of such an incident from an initial check," an Israeli army spokeswoman told Reuters.

Earlier, Israel said one civilian was shot and moderately injured in an attack near the Karni (Mintar) entrance to the Gaza Strip. According to Haaretz, the man was apparently shot by a Palestinian sniper near the gas terminal at crossing. Israeli reports indicated that the man sustained moderate injuries to his thigh and that his wounds are not life-threatening.

Thanks.

In all seriousness, in a community where bomb belts are strapped onto young kids, it could be BOTH a daycare center AND a bomb factory!

Muslims have the "right to kill 4 million"

Snip: Muslims have the right to kill 4 million Americans – including 2 million children – based on Islamic teachings, according to an article attributed to an al-Qaida spokesman.

------------------

He warned that "America must prepare itself; it must go on maximum alert; ... because, Allah willing, the blow will come from where they least expect it. …"

The article was translated into English by the Middle East Media Research Institute, an independent, non-profit organization that analyzes Mideast media.

Abu Gheith found justification for killing Americans in the Islamic holy book, the Koran, in which "Allah said, 'He who attacked you, attack him as he attacked you,' … ."

"The Americans have still not tasted from our hands what we have tasted from theirs," Abu Gheith wrote. "The [number] killed in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were no more than fair exchange for the ones killed in the Al-'Amiriya shelter in Iraq, and are but a tiny part of the exchange for those killed in Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, the Philippines, Bosnia, Kashmir, Chechnya, and Afghanistan."

"Al-Qaeda Suspects Color White House Debate Over Iran"

By Dafna Linzer
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, February 10, 2007; Page A01

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Last fall, Bush administration officials asked the CIA to compile a list of those suspects so the White House could publicize their presence. For years, the administration has not revealed their names, in part because it sought to protect its intelligence sources but also because at the time the U.S. government was concealing the identities of suspects it was holding in secret CIA custody.

But the names of some of the men in Iran have become public, including "high-value" targets such as al-Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith of Kuwait and Saif al-Adel of Egypt. U.S. intelligence officials said they are members of the "al-Qaeda operational management committee." U.S. intelligence officials said there are suspicions, but no proof, that one of them may have been involved from afar in planning an attack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in May 2003. Intelligence officials said bin Laden's son Saad is also being held with the other men in Iran."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "'Why We Fight America': Al-Qa'ida Spokesman Explains September 11 and Declares Intentions to Kill 4 Million Americans with Weapons of Mass Destruction

Al-Qa'ida spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith, originally from Kuwait, recently posted a three-part article titled "In the Shadow of the Lances" on the website of the Center for Islamic Research and Studies, www.alneda.com . Following numerous hacking attempts after the international media reported that the site was linked to Al-Qa'ida, its address was changed to http://66.34.191.223 .

Recently, the site published an article by Ayman Al-Zawahiri, bin Laden's deputy and leader of the Egyptian Jihad organization. However, the Saudi London-based Arabic-daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported that the article had already appeared in the Al-Mujahiddeen publication.[1] The following are excerpts from Abu Gheith's article:

Part I: Why We Fight the U.S."

Recently a prominent American news program asked me for an example of the kind of jihadist websites that were in existence in ancient times. So I (literally) dusted off my archives from 2002, 2003 and 2004, and ultimately selected a .pdf archive of the al-Neda site, operated by deceased al-Qaida ideologue Yussuf al-Ayyeri."

OPINION: I think that's it's not unusual to have a url change.

Jihad-related web sites change frequently, one goes down, one goes up, one goes down, more goes up...and so it goes.

As for that url that goes back in time. The page does not open for me and that's not surprising (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1793738/posts?page=1075#1075 ).
