March 17, 2007: All DC War Memorials At Risk - Code Pink "Taking" The WWII Memorial
Code Pink ^ | Suzie Benjamin and Comrades

From Code Pink's calendar for March 17th:

Saturday, March 17:
11:00 am - Join CODEPINK for a Women's Convergence for the March on the Pentagon

Join tens of thousands of people from around the country to march from the Mall to the Pentagon in a mass demonstration to demand: U.S. Out of Iraq Now! 2007 is the 40th anniversary of the historic 1967 anti-war march to the Pentagon during the Vietnam War.

Location: SW corner of 17th and Constitution NW, next to WWII Memorial and the Pond. We will join the March on the Pentagon Rally at 21st and Constitution at noon.

Code Pink is the marxist group whose "women's convergence" gathered at the US Navy Memorial on January 27, 2007 for a pre-rally rally with Jane Fonda as their star speaker. While at the Navy Memorial, Code Pink's "women" dressed the Lone Sailor statue in Code Pink garb:

So, it's not necessary for me to remind everybody reading this forum that it is very important that we have a huge turnout on our side so that all of our war memorials can be guarded by watchful eagles on March 17th.

Keep spreading the word among your friends and fellow patriots. We need everybody who can get to DC for March 17th to be there with us.

Note: I have cross-posted this message at both of the Gathering of Eagles forums and Free Republic.

The more lazy Freepers who just sit at home come out, the more we can protect these places.

I was just thinking I hadn't seen too many postings by you on the threads I've been checking. Maybe you were conserving ammo for this big salvo :-) Good work!

"If there really is a true threat, wouldn't it make a great deal of sense to alert the authorities?"

Er, WhiteGuy, that does mean us, the citizens of the USA, who are the ultimate authority.
Not some "faceless authority entity".
Sure we pay taxes to have a few uniformed representatives around to take care of our light work, but it has always been the primary responsibility of all of us individually to protect our own rights, and support each other.

I have a question for you: If your neighbor has a party, and some of their guests get loud and obnoxious, and it annoys you very much, do you knock on their door and ask them to please tone it down? Or do you call the police and file a anonymous complaint?

While your question has nothing to do with vandalism of public property, in the unlikely scenario you described, I would do neither. In fact, I'd call on the phone to find out why I wasn't invited!

My friend, you don't have a clue and I needed to tell you.

Oh.... thanks for your comment, but I really don't care what you think.

WhiteGuy, you say ".... In fact, I'd call on the phone to find out why I wasn't invited!"

They would probably tell you that you are a pesky annoyance and to go away.

We reasonable believe and have past proof that vandalism or pranks will be done to the Memorials. Vandalism and pranks are a way to get media attention. We don't want then to get any.

In case you hadn't read Code Pink's agenda for that weekend, on Friday night, they are planning "civil disobedience" at the White House. And you don't think they will continue their actions the next morning?

We are all tired of these actions getting a pass.

"But isn't the whole "protect the monuments" just a bit of a stretch?

If there really is a true threat, wouldn't it make a great deal of sense to alert the authorities?"
I apologize for trolling your comments in advance but...Uh, you remember Vietnam, that little thing in Southeast Asia? This same group of peace-loving yellow Americans caused immense harm. Ya ever stop and think what the word 'monument' or 'memorial' means? Now about the authorities. HUH? Authority of what? Just who do we turn to so that our interests are protected? Anyway, have a nice day.

Code Pink's founder, Medea Benjamin, has a track record of violence. She was the leader of the Seattle riots that cause $5 million in property damage and $20 million in lost business.

And she called Seattle their "battle cry". If she's for peace, what need would she have for a "battle cry"?

But a handful of acts of vandalism over the past 6 years really isn't putting "All DC WAR Memorials at risk"

Wanna bet? These animals are the worst kind of scum. If you know anything about the psychology of large groups, their behavior can get out of hand in a hurry.

The problem is with their thinking it's OK to vandalize our war memorials (or the Capitol). It just demonstrates a glaring lack of respect for the momument and those it's meant to homor

Thanks for your support; we will need it!

The authorities were probably watching whjile they put that pink hat on the statue in the first place. Perhaps the problem is with the park police then?

Where ever the problem lies, it's obviously not going to be solved by March 17th by anyone with authority and it's obvious code pink doesn't care enough. What you seem to miss is that this isn't just "a" statue to people, it's a sacred monument to sailors who gave their life for ALL of us. It's a place their brothers can go to honor their own. It's a place their families can go and know their country understands the sacrifice of their loved ones.

Certainly they're free to hold their protest if they have the proper permits but to deface a statue (even if only briefly with a "silly" pink hat) bought by the deaths of those who GAVE them that right is disgusting. Those who object to code pink most strongly seem to be those who served and that bears more weight than anything code pink has ever done.

How much sacrifice and bravery does it take someone like Medea Benjamin to yell, "Pull out now!" (That, of course, is predicated on the notion she could actual find someone to "put it in" in the first place.) That they so casually disgrace a statue that honors those who died in service of their country shows a complete misunderstanding and callous disregard (not to mention it's just tacky) for the very soldiers they pretend to care about. Sometimes the "pro" troops side should be allowed to have the same voice and that's what they're gathering for, that's what's being discussed here.

A local vet who was at Pearl Harbor and spent the war in submarines was at the dedication, and he has a picture of President Bush saluting him.

For now, it's "meet at the Wall," but that area will only hold a few thousand. Once our permit applications are approved by the Park Service we will announce the other gathering areas for Eagles. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Thank you, and everybody else who's coming, for making the commitment to defend the Wall and our other memorials from the peace rioters.
