Couric handwringing over green backlash

Katie Couric
WASHINGTON – Oh, the things multimillion-dollar news readers worry about …

In her CBS blog, the day after the Oscars, anchorwoman Katie Couric frets that Hollywood's overwhelming embrace of Al Gore and the politics of global warming might prove to be a political setback with the hicks in the sticks.

"But as the throngs of celebrities greeted Al Gore as a secular saint, I wondered if this might usher in a backlash against environmentalists," she speculated. "It wasn't too long ago, afterall, (sic) that environmentalists were decried as tree-huggers, and former President Bush rallied against them – trying to say it was the spotted owl against logging interests and jobs in the West."

Couric also wonders out loud if the Academy Awards Best Documentary Oscar presentation to Gore for his "An Inconvenient Truth" might start the public thinking global warming is a "liberal" cause.

"The Oscars may give Gore's critics ammunition to reject a school of thought that's been validated by countless scientists worldwide," she mused. "Some people I know latched on to a recent Gore global warming conference that was canceled because of a snowstorm."

Couric left no doubt about where she stands on the issue.

"But my fervent hope is that Hollywood's embrace of Al Gore doesn't give people an excuse to condemn and mock the effort – and oppose taking steps that we as a society need to take to deal with the issue of climate change," she said. "Some people find anything trendy repugnant, but this is a trend that's really important."

Couric's network broadcast is currently mired in third place among the Big Three. She took over for long-time anchor Dan Rather.

So, global warming is just a "trend" huh?

And I was foolish to think it was a scientifically proven doomsday certainty.

Hey it's scary that there are probably democrats sitting in Harrisburg trying to figure out just how to tax that!

LOL! Looking at your moniker here I'm hoping "climate change" doesn't follow the NASCAR circuit to Las Vegas in 2 weeks.

Hopefully, it will soon go the way of mood rings and Beanie Babies.

["I wondered if this might usher in a backlash against environmentalists," she speculated.]

Then she added with relief, "Oh well, beter them than me. I've been back-lashed as much as a body can be. Any more back-lashing and it'll be Katie out the door! "

Sounds like Katie is still broadcasting from inside her colon.

It's dark, smells bad, nobody wants to look, and she is totally and completely alone.

"Some people find anything trendy repugnant, but this is a trend that's really important."

I find Al-Katie trendy and repugnant. Does anybody know is she informed her viewers this evening about the Goracle's carbon footprint in Tennessee?

I'm pretty sure of the answer but I thought I'd ask anyway.

I have it on good authority that Algore buys carbon credits from a rice farmer in China, so there's nothing to worry about./sarcasm off

Katie, Katie, Katie.

You are so 1980's!

It is time for you to retire and smell the roses.....preferably at Dan Rather's ranch.

Don't fret on Al Gore's account, Katie.

Al has some lovely property in Tennessee that he can return to...thanks, entirely, to the global warming that took place about 11,000 years ago.

Whew! Just checked the NASCAR schedule and no races near Indiana (how close is Virginia?) in April so it looks like the march of the Al penguin won't affect any races.

It's not Hollywood's embrace that makes me mock the effort, it's the non-existent PROOF of human caused climate change that they're all excited about.

Wait till people actually START paying a carbon tax. At that point, the consequences of what has been advocated for the last 15 years will start to (finally) sink in. Then you'll see a backlash like you won't believe.
