NEW YORK (CNN) -- These days, it seems as if it is good politics for conservatives to address the annual convention of gay Republicans.
"Keep pushing the Republican Party because you're pushing it in the right direction," New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told the Log Cabin Republican convention over the weekend.
That is a far cry from the 1992 Republican convention, when the party's far right wing attacked the gay community.
"Bill Clinton and Al Gore represent the most pro-lesbian and pro-gay ticket in history," said Pat Buchanan at the 1992 GOP convention.
The convention crowds responded with enthusiasm. But now, some Republican candidates are taking a less confrontational approach.

True. I favor a flat income tax, which would destroy any effect marriage has on tax structure anyways.

Being anti-gay is a losing position for the GOP.

As do I. In all the trashing of candidates about their stance on social issues though, I have yet to hear anyone ask what any candidates stance is on things like the flat tax.

Very true, most folks are against things like gay marriage, but they are also turned off by anti-gay vitriol.

We've gone around on this before a bit. Yes, anyone taking money from Soros and aligning themselves with Human Rights groups are suspect. And Rudy wanting them to keep pushing is ridiculous. But Soros spreads his $$ far and wide.

"I think they were referring to Pat Robertson actually."
Was there another *Pat* in the article and I miss it?

In my definition being pro-gay is being in support of affirmative action like preferences and crime legislation that somehow makes their crime better(or worse) then a crime against a straight person. It also means being beholden to their special interest groups.
I think that's right on. "Pro-gay" to me means pandering and giving a status to gay people that others don't have, and "anti-gay" is an effort to restrict the rights of gays (sodomy laws, miltary service ban, etc.) I think government should be neutral.
To: spikeytx86
The GOP is already inclusive. I know 3 gays personally that are conservatives, though they don't belong to the LCRs.

There is obviously something that just isn't clicking yet.
That is your answer to post 23. Maybe you just don't know enough about Soros.

But I assure you, they are going to use this to destroy him.
Why not use the fact that he's a gun-grabbing police-state fascist? I find myself on many of these Rudy threads being in the odd position of being both against the anti-gay social "conservative" agenda but also being very much against a Giuliani candidacy. I think people are against him for all the wrong reasons (except for the RKBA voters, which includes myself).

Some supposed 'conservatives' would trash Barry Goldwater if he were to run for president in this day and age.

Very true, most folks are against things like gay marriage, but they are also turned off by anti-gay vitriol. Most Americans are live and let live types. As you say the anti-gay vitriol turns them off and in the end hurts the GOP. I liked your points, btw. They seem well thought out.

Pro gay? Wanting to teach your children acceptance ofalternative lifestyles based on sexual orientation in public schools. Classifying homosexuals as a class needing gov't protection/affirmative action. Forcing chuches to recognize gay "marriages". Classifying anti-gay slurs or perceived slurs as hate speech. Pushing for hate crimes legislation. Pushing for unfettered gay adoption. The list goes on and on.

Some have, I am not sure of any here, but I know some wanted to rename a building that was named after Goldwater because of his views on gays.

Being pro gay agenda is suiced for the GOP. Rudy is that poison pill. And being NOT for the gay agenda is not the same thing as anti-gay.
How many states have voted on gay marriage bans? How many passed with flying colors? Every last one.

"I think government should be left out of it entirely, and we should simply have domestic partnerships for any couple."
I have a few business associates that are Gay. They've flat out told me, Gays are not the ones pushing for Gay marriage. They think it's a silly issue compared to the real needs of this country. They are perfectly happy with ceremonies in their little Gay churches, expressing their love for each other in a semi-private venue. My best guess: the Dims are the driving force behind this issue for their own sick reasons.

In general I would say that is pro-gay. I think schools should be neutral when it comes to whether it is good or bad.
For clarification, what do you mean by "unfettered gay adoption" Like putting gay couples on the same footing as heterosexual couples or gay adoption period?
