My Email to the Republican National Committee
Me | February 25, 2007 | Calpernia

Posted on 02/25/2007 2:07:14 PM PST by Calpernia

Hello RNC, are you listening?

I just received a call to renew my RNC membership. The solicitor assured me with my questions and concerns that RNC is moving away from supporting Log Cabin Republicans.

I felt relieved, thanked him and authorized him to transfer me to the verifier to make a donation. I tell the verifier, if what was said was true, that the RNC is moving away from supporting the Log Cabin Republicans, he can double my donation amount.

The verifier, gets mad/defensive. Asks me why would the RNC not support Log Cabin Republicans? He says they are part of the GOP and deserve our vote.

I said that was all I needed to hear and ended my the call. That is, without verifying my donation.

I will send the money directly to the Conservative candidates I support. No more RNC.

An ossified patronage machine -- an organization of hacks, apparatchiks, and assorted bureaucratic dead weight. Best to contribute directly to to the candidates of your choice, IMO.

Yeah, the fence sitters are only complicating things. You provided a lot of data. It's bookmarked.

There is nothing moderate about sodomy

I wouldn't know, I never want to know :P

I have a few other subjects in mind that are my own definition of 'religious right' vs. 'moderate'.

None have a thing to do with LCR. ;)

Are moderate and liberal Republicans welcomed here?

Backstabbers aren't welcome, which pretty much describes the "moderates" (liberals, really). I live in the dying state of NY, so I know what a bunch of losers the GOP moderates can be. And they want their brand of Republicanism to be the dominant force in the party, just like they were during this party's 40 years in the wilderness. No thank you to that, I would say.

I did read it again and I still have not brought myself around to reading a "gay blog"...I've got no interest in that. But, at the same time, I've got no interest in trying to control another adult's sexual behaviors or their preferences as long as it stays between other conscenting adults.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..."

Oh yes, a favorite "out of context" quote of Jesus Christ by those that sin the most. However, you neglect his words to the woman thus excused..."Go and sin no more."

Notice I said "heterosexual marriage", not just heterosexual. This implies a biblically sanctioned lifestyle. I consider unmarried hetereosexual sex to be just as bad as homosexualty. So, I am not inconsistent on that point.

Don't go bringing "libertarian" viewpoints to the table in the name of the RNC. Libertarin's are better classified as "libertines."

"I'm confused. If the government should be in my bedroom, maybe I shouldn't own a gun either?"

More libertarian sophistry and hyperbole.

Bottom line is that a proper Republican canididate should:

1. Be moral in his behavior and lifestyle - traditional Judeo-Christian views. Don't talk it, walk it.
2. Be against the death of innocents by abortion.
3. Be against a low view of life that assisted suicide promotes.
4. Not persecute homosexuals by denying them life or taking property, but at the same time never give them the legitamcy of law or any special protections.
5. Protect and encourage lifetime committed hetereosexual marraige and the families produced thereby - provide special tax breaks to encourage this. That doesn't mean persecution of unwed mothers either. However, the "state" should not make it desireable to be one either.
6. Be committed to America's defense and maintain a large standing military to project U.S. influence abroad and keep out enemies on the defensive.
7. Protect our borders, but with common sense and compassion.
8. Hold to an "individual" view of the 2nd Ammendment. Whereby all "law abiding" citizens may be armed.
9. Only appoint judges that will interpret the constitution in light of its original intent - NO extrapolation. Ammendments should be brought about by the consitutional process - not judges.

That is my short list.

"big part Conservative, little part moderate, NO part liberal"

Picture an infinite row of water glasses, each filled with pure water. Now, along comes Satan with a jar of evil, black as India ink, and an eye dropper. He puts one drop in the first glass, two in the second, three in the third, and so on.

The first glasses will contain so little that it will be imperceptible to the naked eye. These are conservatives. Further down the row, he will be putting in so much that the evil completely displaces the water. This is the hard left. Between these two extremes, there where the water is muddy and ugly looking, those are moderates.

^5 Calpernia, I told them the same thing, as well as the NRCC. I get mail all the time, from Senatorial Committees as well, and I told Ms. Dole, just as I did Mr. Frist, the very same thing. My money will go to help fund Conservative candidates ONLY. Money is hard enough to come by, I will not give it, just to have it used against me and all I hold dear.

Just curious............when did you stop expecting more from people who hold public office? When did you decide you political leaders shouldn't be held to a higher standard? Did you ever believe in those things?

I just had to ask, as I see a lot of it here, especially, lately. And it is troubling, to me at least.

"In order to ease my confusion, are not Democrats either Conservative Democrats called Blue Dog, or liberal?"

For the most part. There are some libertarians as well. It's like any group of people: they span across the spectrum. In my own case, I'm probably more conservative than most Republicans.

"I think it is admirable that you admit to being a democrat."

LOL! There are more than a few FReepers who would disagree with you on that. But thanks for the nice thought.

"It is imperative that we try to find a solution to our process for electing our political officials. They must be held accountable."

I agree that it's important, but would perhaps differ on the level of importance I place upon that. Our political system is not in that horrible of shape. I take a look at some really horrible governments like those in Zimbabwe or Venezuela and wonder why we beat our breasts so. Our system works. Perhaps not as efficiently as we would like, and at too high a price tag, but it does work.

In my view, being conservative (socially/morally/politically) is in large part it's own reward. One of the real weaknesses of conservatism in my view is that it tends toward being dour. Why? Conservatism is a good lifestyle.
