FReep this poll: Giuliani vs Duncan Hunter:
http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=173
The best analogy are the claims sometimes posted that a private business is "censoring free speech". The time to worry is when the government begins cracking down (or in this case, when Jim begins banning people simply for supporting Rudy). I've seen no indications that he intends to do so; hence these claims of persecution are totally unfounded.
265 does seem like an awful lot of especially since it's a brand new poll. I was just pinged to it this a.m.
The Rudy cultist TROLLS are probably clearing their cookies and voting multiple times. As you're right, I haven't seen that many Rudy Freeper trolls posting. (They 'prolly' know they'd get on the Zot list for when the purge comes)
Agreed.
What's at the root of this is obvious to those who've been around. It's simply a case of projection. Many of the posters who now claim the victim status actively worked to hound others who questioned the GOP off this site. Indeed, they often did so by referencing Jim's statements to the effect that FR supports the GOP. Now that the founder of this site has come out against their own view, they're assuming that others will attempt to use the same devices they themselves used in the past.
I don't approve of those tactics no matter who employs them, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find this a little humorous. The word "shadenfreude" springs to mind.
See post 631 and if you ever come around to support Hunter remember his site is at http://www.gohunter08.com
Don't you just love how the rules changed on FR?
There was a time when spam was deleted and abusers were banned. Spamorama seems to be the new fad around here and makes reading posts a nuisance.
There was also a time when pictures of partial birth abortion weren't permitted, but now a decision has been made to permit those pictures because Jim doesn't like Rudy.
Of course, this is the same site that largely supported Alan Keyes (and was it Pat Buchanan) in 2000, so it's hardly representative of the voting public. Thank goodness!
Ah, the COLHfG crowd is waking up.
If the Club for Growth prefers bad trade deals I won't take them seriously. Really, if you prefer Giuliani, you should change the screen name, because you prefer a police state to an empowered citizenry.
But those who are support Hunter overwhelmingly. You point means nothing, and sounds like the words of someone losing BADLY.
Not everyone writes and opus when they leave. What you see is what we are.
I was never a supporter of Buchanan or Alan Keyes so it is not indicative of the Hunter supporters that they were backers of those you mentioned and I would agree they were a bit wacky and wouldn't have played well with the public. You don't have a case with Duncan Hunter. Hunter strikes the right balance, is not absurd in expressing himself and is impressive with a warm personality. So you can drop that garbage about 'extremists' right now. I like Rudy but I DO NOT support someone who is liberal on many important issues as President.
Exactly. If I had to provide an estimate, I'd guess that the number of regular posters is in the low thousands. If there were 200,000 people who posted routinely, how could I routinely spot the same names on each thread?
I see that your penchant for distortion has reached a new zenith.
First, the only thing "Simon" did that pissed off conservatives was to "sign" the Log Cabin letter, except that he didn't sign it, Sal Russo did with Gerry Parsky's financial gun to his head.
Second, Bill Simon had NOTHING to do with starting the recall. It was started by Shawn Steel and Melanie Morgan and only got going when Darryl Issa chipped in some money.
Finally, it was Carl Rove's appointment of Parsky that has been the downfall of the CAGOP. Upon appointment, he reorganized the entire structure and it's never been the same.
Blaming Simon for Arnold, whom YOU have consistently supported, is beyond dishonesty, but at least it IS consistent.
I agree, but MadIvan isn't among them and while people may like Duncan Hunter or other true conservatives (personally, while I prefer Newt, I know he'll never get elected), if this site becomes much more unaccepting, we become the mirror of the Democrat Underground that we all know and despise.
See, this is why I love Free Republic. Not only can we talk about the news, I get lessons on how to write.
As for now, a year away from any election, its between Mitt and potentially Hunter. Anything can happen in a year.
Rudy and McCain aren't my top priorities.
#1: I don't have a case with Duncan Hunter? I haven't mentioned Duncan Hunter on this thread or any other thread in weeks.
And a week or so ago, when I actually did mention Hunter, I said that I liked him and wished him well but was concerned he didn't seem to understand that he needs to spend $$ to get his name know.
#2: I've never said that Duncan is absurd in expressing himself. Are you sure you're addressing the right freeper?
#3: Who is talking about extremists on this thread? It's not me.
Any other little facts you'd like to get wrong? If so, carry on.
My point, obvious lost on the author, was that some on this forum, including the 68 grunt account, appear far more interested in promoting partisan, Republican aims, than conservatives values.
Although all are entitled to an opinion, this forum is non partisan. It has to be or it will loose any hope of shaping political opinion and influencing governance. The consequences are no more obvious than the actions of the disastrous, liberal executive that Republican partisans have enabled in California. Left unchallenged, the 68 grunt account and its brethren will promote the same at the national level.
I don't mind liberal Republicans challenging conservatives on governing philosophy. I do mind belligerent, intolerant partisans attacking conservatives in their own house simply because conservatives discriminate and place less emphasis on short term expediencies than accomplishing the greater goal.
Patience and planning have a distinct place in politics. Constantly running to catch the next popularity express, as it leaves the station, usually leads to bruised knees, bloody noses and ruined reputations. Arrivals at unintended destinations obviously produce discomfort and embarrassment.
The greater questions aren't "Is he Republican and can he win?", but rather "Is he conservative and will his stewardship advance conservatism?".
I have too, but see little purpose in futile arguments of trying to badger someone who believes otherwise into a corner where they only hate you (the "you" is not personal, just a general reference) and the opiion you try to foist on them. I've found little success at that and while there are limited times I feel it is important to do this, I fear the rule of Democrats far more than whether Duncan Hunter or Newt is my guy. I'll take a Rino over Russ Feingold every day of the week. While Rinos turn my stomach, anti American bed wetting lefties like Feingold will damage this country beyond repair far worse than a guy like Rudy Guiliani
You sure did. Also Buchanan kept scoring high as well!
I am still here and still posting. I like to make fun of several posters that are calling for us to be banned. I think it is humorous that all of a sudden I have turned into a liberal or whatever based on who I support. It is like group think or you are out! I have never marched to the same drummer as some Freepers on here and probably won't in the future because I like to research and think for myself.
Came on here in 1999 supporting then Gov Bush and got trashed so some things never change. I love it when they keep pinging the Mod or Jim when they don't like something. Reminds me of little kids tattling. Only time I hit abuse is if it is obscene or a personal attack.
I have one Freeper following me from thread to thread pinging me and how do I handle it? Ignore, Ignore, Ignore!
Have to keep a sense of humor on here! :)
