Don't tell me. The Russians said they have your back as long as you keep buying weapons from them......and you believed them.

If hostilities do occur, I would hope that the US State Department would have the presence of mind not to interfere and keep Rice at home with her mouth shut.

But a source in the UN force in the Golan Heights charged with monitoring the armistice denied any Syrian troop build-up and lashed out an alarmist Israeli media that repeatedly brings up the topic.
The UN is on the side of Syria.
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

"Israeli-occupied" Golan--Thought the Israelis won the land in the 6-day war. So how can it be "occupied"? Smacks of the author siding with the enemy.

You can't look at this in isolation: Iran has a hand in it. They're trying to scatter the attention of those who would oppose their nuke activities.

This is a little aside....
In 1973 the President of the US was Richard Nixon.
That was the year of the last major arab-Israeli war.
The Russians were led by Brezhnev. He ordered the Soviet Military to take over the Oil Fields in eastern Turkey/northern Iraq, the so-called Kirkuk Oil Fields.
This would be an invasion of eastern Turkey and Iraq.
President Nixon was facing impeachment hearings. He was considered weak by Brezhnev.
President Nixon learned of Brezhnev's orders and told the SecDef to go to Defcom 4. Defcom 5 is War! Defcom 4 means all Strategic Planes are in their Failsafe zones. All nuclear missiles are ready. All tactical are dispersed.
The rest is history. The Soviets stood down. President Nixon
was run out of office. But his orders as POTUS were uncontested.
Been there.

Those two rats in the photo below had their war planning meeting in Tehran on the 18th of Feb, and now Syrian troops are reported building up on their side of the Golan (with Russian weapons no doubt...). I guess we don't have to wonder what the topic of discussion in Tehran entailed.
Iran and Syria know sooner or later it's going to be judgment time and they are attempting to open up a second front against northern Israel, coupled with Iranian/Syrian supported Hezballah Islamic death cultists shelling northern Israeli towns, while Hamas, if they can stop slaughtering Fatah thugs, will open another terrorist front on the northern Gaza border. This is go for broke against the jihadist enemy! Olmert, do not f#@&! this up! Jewish lives are at stake!

If Syria touched Israel, it would be facing a two front war. The US would invade from Iraq.
