JERUSALEM A reported Syrian troop build-up near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights has fuelled speculation in Israel about a future conflict, more than three decades after the two enemies last went to war.
Syrian armed forces appear to be moving closer to the armistice line as Damascus spearheads an unprecendented armaments drive, shrieked Israels Haaretz newspaper from its front page yesterday.
The Syrian armed forces are being strengthened in a way unprecedented in recent memory with the help of generous funding from Iran, wrote military affairs correspondent Zeev Schiff.

You can't look at this in isolation: Iran has a hand in it. They're trying to scatter the attention of those who would oppose their nuke activities.

Netanyahu is no more a "fighter" than Olmert is. Does no one remember the backpedaling and total aceptance and promotion of "the process" when Netanyahu was in power???? Israel shares a problem with the United States right now. There are no good men from whom a prime minister might be chosen. The fact that Olmert is still in office is a strong indication that there is no heart left in Israel. While Iran threatens annihilation and Syria builds its forces and the Pals stockpile rockets, Israelis are out shopping for shrouds.

perhaps you have not been listening to Mr. Netanyahu lately?
He has very strong and bold positions on current affairs.
Not saying that he is the best , but better than the coward Olmert.

This is a little aside....
In 1973 the President of the US was Richard Nixon.
That was the year of the last major arab-Israeli war.
The Russians were led by Brezhnev. He ordered the Soviet Military to take over the Oil Fields in eastern Turkey/northern Iraq, the so-called Kirkuk Oil Fields.
This would be an invasion of eastern Turkey and Iraq.
President Nixon was facing impeachment hearings. He was considered weak by Brezhnev.
President Nixon learned of Brezhnev's orders and told the SecDef to go to Defcom 4. Defcom 5 is War! Defcom 4 means all Strategic Planes are in their Failsafe zones. All nuclear missiles are ready. All tactical are dispersed.
The rest is history. The Soviets stood down. President Nixon
was run out of office. But his orders as POTUS were uncontested.
Been there.

Those two rats in the photo below had their war planning meeting in Tehran on the 18th of Feb, and now Syrian troops are reported building up on their side of the Golan (with Russian weapons no doubt...). I guess we don't have to wonder what the topic of discussion in Tehran entailed.
Iran and Syria know sooner or later it's going to be judgment time and they are attempting to open up a second front against northern Israel, coupled with Iranian/Syrian supported Hezballah Islamic death cultists shelling northern Israeli towns, while Hamas, if they can stop slaughtering Fatah thugs, will open another terrorist front on the northern Gaza border. This is go for broke against the jihadist enemy! Olmert, do not f#@&! this up! Jewish lives are at stake!

He was very strong with bold positions on current affairs before he took office last time and did a 180 in every respect as soon as he was elected. Why should one expect a different outcome with a second chance?

If Syria touched Israel, it would be facing a two front war. The US would invade from Iraq.

The U.S.nor any other country has never come to the aid of Israel when it has been attacked by it's enemies in any of it's wars. It only shows up afterward and pressures it into giving back it's winnings so we can have plenty of oil and happy rich Wall Street investment bankers.
The only true friend Israel has is the one they continue to turn their back on, as do we.
Psa 121:1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
Psa 121:2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Psa 121:3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Psa 121:4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
Psa 121:5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
Psa 121:6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
Psa 121:7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
Psa 121:8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

You do know that that sort of war would result in a full scale nuclear exchange between the US and NATO on one side and Russia/former USSR/China on the other.
