Poll Shows Giuliani Love Across the Country (Rudy Beats All Dem Candidates by at Least 5%)
Gothamist.com ^ | 2.22.07 | Mary Ann Chastain

Posted on 02/22/2007 7:09:41 AM PST by meg88

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani got good and bad news from the Quinnipiac Poll.

The good news: He beats Senator Hillary Clinton, 48% to her 43% in a national poll conducted last week.

The bad news: It's still over 18 months to go until Election 2008.

Quinnipiac drilled down to the red, blue and purple state level: Giuliani beats Clinton 55-38 in states that voted Republican in the 2004 election.

Interestingly, he ties her 46-46 in the blue states, while it's close in "purple states" (where the "margin in 2004 was less than 7%) - Giuliani has 44% while Clinton has 45%. Here are some more matchups:

- Senator John McCain edges Clinton, 46 - 44 percent

- Clinton tops former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 49 - 37 percent;

- Giuliani beats Illinois Sen. Barack Obama 47 - 40 percent;

- Giuliani tops 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards 48 - 40 percent;

- McCain ties Obama 43 - 43 percent;

- McCain gets 43 percent to Edward's 42 percent, a tie;

- Obama tops Romney 49 - 29 percent;

- Edwards beats Romney 48 - 32 percent.

Giuliani would win a Republican primary with 40% of Republican primary voters supporting him over McCain who would get just 18%, while Clinton would win a primary with 38% over Obama (23%). Furthermore, the Quinnipiac poll shows that Giuliani has the highest favorability rating of all candidates, with 57%, which Clinton has 46%, McCain has 51% and Obama has 44% (notably, 40% don't know enough about Obama to form an opinion.

Yesterday, Mayor Giuliani was campaigning in South Carolina. On the news last night, WNBC's Melissa Russo noted something unusual: While the crowds were very friendly to Giuliani, even reporters (from Southern papers) asked Giuliani to take pictures with him.

Read all the polls. Rudy is the only electable Republican. I don't believe in litmus test and neither does Michael Reagan, Sean Hannity, or Rush Limbaugh, all smart, pragmatic, realistic conservatives. My base ball analogy does stand and is correct. Ronald Reagan believed in it.

LOL. We haven't had any credit card debt in over 20 years because we pay off the full balance at the end of each month. What we do though is charge everything because we have a card that gives money back on purchases.

I don't think any of us "disrupters", "sickpuppies, "idiots" "self righteous", judgemental", "one issue voters" want any of you promoters of a leftist agenda banned.

You all make for great fun.:-)

I had heretofore not considered you one of those. If you like, but I had thought you to be an honest conservative. You're over-reference to your devotion started to give me a clue but I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Btw, ... "idiots" "self righteous", judgemental", "one issue voters" ... are deceitful red herrings. Idiots is close to a quote, but useful idiot is more apropos.

He will get the responsible conservative vote. It's the irresponsible extremist single-issue rightwing vote he won't get, and won't need.

I think the opposite is true and that the Rudy fans are generally the single-issue unappeasables. If I had a dollar for every time a Rudy fan has said something to the effect of "The war is the only thing that matters.", I'd be rich. Opponents of Rudy have multiple issues which they base their opposition to him on.

I really don't care about being liked, but if you're true when you say "please stay" you're disqualified as a disruptor. If we want these people to vote for Duncan Hunter in the primary we must not alienate them now.

I mean it, please stay. I don't like anyone banned.

If we want these people to vote for Duncan Hunter in the primary we must not alienate them now.

I don't want to alienate them. I present my opinion that comes from vast experience, and truth about their candidate. I get into the debate because I really honestly believe Rudy will not only get a democrat elected but will do serious damage to the credibilty of the Republican party for years to come.

I actually like to be liked, but priniples mean more to me.

When I got in the political world I realized being called names was part of the territory. Its okay, I can take it.

Um, ok, easy enough to focus only on the races where conservatives lost. At least you could mention Chafee.

But in the House, the losers included something like half of the moderate caucus: Rob Simmons, Nancy Johnson, Charlie Bass, Jeb Bradley, Jim Leach, Sue Kelly, Clay Shaw, Mark Foley, and then there were the retirement losses of Jim Kolbe and Sherry Boehlert. And Joe Schwarz lost his primary.

The hardest hit portion of the House GOP caucus was the group that voted for embryonic research funding. That includes all of the above, plus losers Curt Weldon and John Sweeney. With 30 GOP House losses, 13 moderates are now gone forever, their seats will likely stay Dem.

That's a pretty heavy hit. It proves that selling out will not save you on election day.

You got it wrong. Again. You're reading post #191 rather than #192 on that thread. If I had gotten it wrong, the rudy fans would have been all over me on this thread.

Best of luck in your newfound position on JimRob's radar.

Well, I do believe in some litmus tests as well as millions of other socons. Rudy fails those tests. Rudy would split the base, which is something the republican party cannot afford.

Now, I know you read my post because you're claiming that your baseball analogy still stands, and yet you skip over my perspective on the polls to tell me to read all the polls. In the sentence right before I say that your analogy falls apart, there is:

But if it's because you don't think Hunter is "electable", I'm not buying it. Rudy splits the base and didn't even win in a head-to-head poll against Hillary in his own state. He is not electable.

Poll: NY voters prefer Hillary over Giuliani

New York Democrats and Republicans have clear hometown favorites - Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rudolph Giuliani - for their parties' 2008 presidential nominations, a statewide poll reported yesterday.

But when it comes to a possible 2008 political subway series between the two, New Yorkers give the nod, 50 percent to 40 percent, to Democrat Clinton over the former New York City mayor, the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey reported.

Tot Rep Dem Ind

Clinton 43% 4% 80% 35%
Giuliani 48 88 14 55
SMONE ELSE(VOL) 1 1 - 2
WLDN'T VOTE(VOL) 2 2 1 3
DK/NA 5 5 4 6
Giuliani tops Clinton 55 - 38 percent in Red states, which voted Republican in the 2004 presidential election,

Rudy isn't splitting the base according to these numbers. And he won't. Pragmatic and realistic conservatives and Republicans know Rudy is so much better than Hillary. Sure the right wing nut fringe might stay home or vote otherwise but Rudy will capture 5 times as many independents and moderate Democrats than he will lose with the right fringe. No other Republican can do that.
