Petition Against Nowak Is Dropped (Ms. Astronaut)

Colleen Shipman said the protective order against the astronaut is no longer necessary.

The Associated Press

HOUSTON - A woman has withdrawn a request for a protective order against an astronaut charged with attacking her because she considered her a romantic rival.

Colleen Shipman, 30, an Air Force captain from Florida, dropped her bid for a petition for "protection against repeat violence" Thursday, officials said Friday.

Shipman said in court documents that the order against Lisa Nowak was no longer necessary.

As a condition of her release from jail, Nowak was fitted with an electronic monitor on her ankle.

It would allow authorities to alert Shipman if Nowak were to violate her bail agreement or attempt to return to Florida.

Nowak was charged in Florida with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping. Police charged her based on weapons and other items found in Nowak's possession: pepper spray, a BB-gun, a new steel mallet, knife and rubber tubing.

Investigators say Nowak thought Shipman was her rival for astronaut William Oefelein's affections.

Shipman filed for the civil court order at the suggestion of the Orlando Police after Nowak confronted her.

Shipman would have had to appear in a public courtroom Tuesday to continue pressing the civil case.

Colleen Shipman, 30, an Air Force captain from Florida, and the Navy Commander and the Navy Captain that were involved in a triage could be a court martial if the military wanted to, since as I understand it they were going with officers that were either greater in rank or lesser in rank and one was married and would have been conduct unbecoming an officer. That may no longer be true.

A triage?

That said this is a very sad day for the military and especially the space program. What a horrible mess that takes the shine off the best and the brightest.

Brings new meaning to the phrase, "Interservice Rivalry".

triage (n). A process for sorting injured people into groups based on their need for or likely benefit from immediate medical treatment.

I think you meant "love triangle."

"I think you meant "love triangle.""

Could be, but I used triage because I was thinking of NASA deciding which one(s) to fire before it got out of hand, because I cannot believe that NASA did not know about this. Which would have been the same as a triage in a health situation. Sorry.

It means that next time I'm hurt in a large scale disaster and someone offers me triage...I'm going to have to yell..."Is that all you people think about, can't you see I'm injured here." ;-)

The phrase you were looking for may have been menage a trois. I wouldn't be too embarrassed about not having that one in your "common usage" vocabulary. I was an English minor in college or I wouldn't have either. :-D

I predict that this Captain, USNF (the "F" is for female btw) will receive no official or unofficial remonstration, letter or punishment of any kind. Political correctness runs amok in our military and since she is a member of a designated victim class (F), she will walk.
