Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]

Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson

I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

"like me have to say "Duncan WHO?" " Jimmy who? Bill who?"

GOVERNORS. When was the last time a Rep was elected President? Ever?

Rudy's got a Governor-like record, and higher name recognition/positives than anyone else.

So he looks good so far.

Well, Jim, I'm a conservative Southern Baptist (in Fla.), oppose gun control, want Roe overruled, and oppose gay rights. But I'm voting for Giuliani.

And I'll be sure to introduce them to the real Rudolph Giuliani. The abortionist, gay union (same thing as gay marriage) gun grabbing New York Yankee.

I'm sure they'd be more than happy to listen to what you have to say Jim. You'd be unlikely to encounter a solitary soul at church who'd get combative over it. Hell, I'm trying extra hard to make sure that I'm not being combative.

I was just pointing out that instantly dismissing evangelicals as being against Rudy is a false premise. I attend an evangelical church, and I'm solidly in the Giuliani camp. Seems like most of us at church are these days. I just wanted you to know.

Have things deteriorated that far?

Yes. And I could give you a long dissertation on the compromises by our "leaders," over a long period of time, that have led us to this pass.

One of the ways you can tell the difference between someone who is part of the problem and someone who is part of the solution is whether they think the word "compromise" has a primarily positive or a negative connotation.

I don't see how anyone who calls themselves "conservative" could support Rudy.....Rudy is clearly a RINO....fiscal conservative maybe, but he's a blatant Social Liberal....sorry but I could never vote for him

My God, what is it with you guys? I mean, I am sure Duncan Hunter is a good US House Rep, but when even conservatives like me have to say "Duncan WHO?" you know that he has a snow-balls chance in hell of being elected.

If the primaries were to be held next month, you'd have a point. More people are finding out about him everyday. If you just want someone with name recognition, let's see if we can get Paris Hilton to promise to be agressive with on the WOT and run her.

I'm not the mobster. :)

So you claim.

I can vouch for Calpernia. She is not a mobster. I've never seen her at any of the meetings or social functions.

I mean, Um, never mind....

as I posted above, they want to leave the party in a catch-22 - many will stay home (I believe it), and the party might see that they can not win without them, but they also cannot win with ONLY them. how do you cater to a base, that can't win you the Presidency on its own, but refuses to be part of a coalition that can?

I don't know the answer to that.

Oh for cryin out loud how kerryesque. I had to listen to that crap for months from the folks in my parish "but hes personally against it" BAH!

He may be saying that now, but in the past he stated he would personally PAY for an abortion for his daughter. His highly praised by NARAL. im sure someone has a link for you here.

Anything he says now is just pandering, soft peddling or out right flip flopping.
