Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]
Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson
I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

Even if Rudy beats the other GOP challengers fair and squareClearly, it's only "fair and square" if they win.
To: CindyDawg
I know. There's no "perfect" candidate, but there must be one with more than a one or two issue platform. We really must stand firm and demand it from a candidate. It is still early.

Do you want al Quaeda to again become a "police issue Uh, buddy....the paragraph in italics is the words of the poster I responded to.
To: M. Thatcher
You think you're being "nice?"
How Clintonesque.

Since abortion was taken out of the states hands, that's not good enough. We need a President who will be commited to returning these issues to the states.
That is what I was talking about. Nothing in the beliefs of a Rudy Giuliani prevents him from supporting returning the issue of abortion to the states.

Here are a list of past "perceived frontrunners" a year and a half out of the nomination:
1976 Democrat: Mo Udall and Scoop Jackson
1980 Republican: George H.W. Bush and Jack Anderson
1984 Democrat: Gary Hart
1988 Democrat: Gary Hart
1992 Democrat: Paul Tsongas
And guess what, NONE of these people came close to winning the nomination.

I always wanted to vote for a cartoon character. As long as it isn't Bugs Bunny. The rabbit is as queer as they come. I can't count the number of times I've seen him give Elmer Fudd a big wet one right on the mouth.

Interesting map.
I wonder how large non-denominational 'megachurches' fit into this map.
Either way, you made your point. Rudy is going to have a hard time.

For starters, here is the laster RET column on Rudy:

I'll try to track down the quote above. I got it from another FR poster. You got me there. I'll get back to you when I find it.

Your post #125 is worthy of the most devious boiler-room DU 'Rat operator. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.Don't expect shame from this poster. She/he/it posted Rudy's father's record (he did time in Sing-Sing before Rudy was born) last night, with a wannabe-mobster-like threat that more was to come. I say, bring it on. Very lame stuff.
To: wagglebee
You missed a few:
1996 Republican: Bob Dole
2000 Democrat: Al Gore
2000 Republican: George Bush Jr.
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
That's just nice. Even if Rudy beats the other GOP challengers fair and square in the primaries, conservatives should still stay home, is what you're advocating. Me and mine will stay home if he's nominated, that's a fact. I will not vote for an anti-gun, pro-gay union (marriage), pro-abortion candidate. You don't like that, then that's your problem, deal with it.

I never really believed I'd see the day when we were having this kind of 2nd amendment discussion about a Republican candidate for the presidency. Have things deteriorated that far?

You got that right!

do folks here realize that if not for Antonin Scalia - Ronald Reagan would have given us 3 pro-Roe SCOTUS appointments.
So stop complaining when we want a real conservative for President.

I think you summed it up nicely. There's nothing wrong with "looking" at possible candidates, but to carry on as if the elections were next week, it's way to early to get that passionate.
