Ok, look this arguement is a little too theoretical. I can't be the only one who remembers this.

Probably the most dramatic embarrassment to Congress over omnibus legislation occurred when, in his 1988 State of the Union address, President Ronald Reagan slammed down on the rostrum three giant stacks of budget bills weighing 42 pounds. “Congress shouldn’t send another one,” Reagan angrily declared. “No, and if you do, I will not sign it.” Both parties erupted in a standing ovation. It was the second time in two years (and third time in history) that all of the 13 regular appropriations bills were rolled into one. Reagan’s show-and-tell stunt embarrassed Congress straight (at least for six of the next seven years).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This sounds like a head to head gambit to me.
I think he was more nuanced than both of you are describing, but leadership can go a long way.
Everyone with any common sense knows nothing happens with the Iranian military without the knowledge of their government.
Right. And I am surprised that no one says that it is the responsibility of the Iranian government to control what goes on in their country. If arms are being shipped out, then the government is responsible, if they call themselves a government. They are accountable.
Sunday marks the start of the Chinese new year. And it just so happens 2007 is the "Year of the Pig".
And in honor of the Chinese New Year, a Separated at Birth? moment
Fish I served in Iraq...I've seen what we are doing up close and pesonal...I have friends there now and friends that didn't return.
So when I hear Faux "Conservatives" like you say BS like:
"Iraq will be another American defeat, another cut and run, come on folks...look at NORTH KOREA!"
I have but one thing left to say to you.
Go f*ck yourself.
You sit there in the safety of your house behind your keyboard and me and the rest of us in uniform will go out and win this thing cause some of us that call ourselves Conservative haven't forgotten what the term "victory" means...and we intend to come back from Iraq with nothing less.
Report me...cuss me I don't really give a rats @ss. Just don't ever say another damn word to me on this again.
That all well and good. Like I've been telling you repeatedly on here and you refuse to liste to...unless you have a media that's willing to actually REPEAT what the President is telling the people...his message will never get out.
BS. The President's press conferences are widely telecast live and unedited. The idea that the President is unable to get his message out because of censorship by the MSM is too conspiratorial for me and underestimates the power of the President's bully pulpit. Let him make another address to the nation.
And I never thought I'd see the day when a Conservative...a REAL conservative would advocate LETTING the Dems cut off funding? Do you WANT soldiers to die?
If the Dems cut off funding for the troops, which I seriously doubt, they will pay a political price. As a Vietnam veteran who spent a year in country [including during the Tet offensive] and another 8 months off the coast, I DON'T WANT our soldiers to die. What I do want is for our political leaders, including the CIC, to speak up in the most forceful terms about the need to win this war and not have the sacrifice of brave Americans be considered a "waste" as Obama said.
You are living in a reality that is not up to date with the current situation. The fact of the matter is that in today's environment in D.C. Reagan would NOT have the success he did in 1981. As I stated above...the DBM has tightened it's grip on what the message is they want the people to see. They are the water carriers for the Connumists that call themselves Democrats in D.C. and they have no compunction against outright lying in what they report.
I worked for the USG for 36 years. I have some idea as to how it works. I also live in the DC area.
The media continues to lie about the war. Congressmen continue to lie about this war. The majority of people in this country vote for the congressmen who lie about the war.
I agree. It's impossible to fight all the lies from the left. It's easy for many Dems to appear before the cameras to defend Clinton and to attack Bush, because Dems only care about scoring an immediate point or two. They don't care about the truth. They know the MSM will be protecting them, instead of pointing out their lies.
I have and will vote for any Rep than a Dem. I voted twice for GWB and don't regret that decision. That does not however make him immune from criticism and constructive advice.
Ok, people.....
We all have opinions and most of them stink like a certain body part, as the expression goes.
Still, this thread has been remarkably civil over the years.
Let's keep in mind that we are all fustrated with our loss in November and there are a lot of reasons for it, but....
Let's try to stick together.
A lot of truthful posts from all of you today, but often I think we're talking past each other.
The real enemy: The dems and the DBM. Let's focus, please!
If you have all this experience in govt. and the military yet haven't figured out how the DBM slants things to the left and how we talk about sins of omission almost daily here, you surely have not been paying attention.
Yes, 1988 his VERY LAST State of the Union he did that.
And despite the President's calling them out, IN HIS LAST STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS, Congress simply ignored the President and continued to send his successors the exact same sorts of bills.
No...it's bullsh*t on your part because you can't rebut the obvious factual statment I made with more of your bash the President rhetoric.
HST had it right. The buck stops in the WH. Bush is the CIC and should not depend on those in Congress to carry his water. A fish rots from the head down.
