WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush's decision to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.
The vote on the nonbinding measure was 246-182.
Resolution criticized President Bush for his decision to send more troops to Iraq is a rare admonishment of a wartime commander-in-chief.
"The passage of this legislation signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote when she endorsed the measure that takes issue with Bush's decision to send an additional 21,500 U.S. troops into battle.

They are smacking every member of our military in the face and laughing at them.
These people.........even the Republicans.........are despicable lowlives and should be punished politically for their treason.
Yeah, a low number. Maybe 2%.
He's a fringe looney-tune who's popular with the stoners on the LP threads. That's about the extent of it.
I think you're trying to split hairs with Paul.
He may think he has principles, but he's a coward and a menace to the safety of the United States nonetheless, and just punched our troops in the gut with this vote.
Ron Paul has a video of himself explaining his vote on his website.

"The 17 are probably doing the will of the people in their district. That's the real truth to be dealt with. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't."
I don't care, they are RINO's all! They could have done the right thing and voted against the resolution. They could then tell the folks in their districts they were doing what was right in support of our troops and their mission against the terrorists. My mailer from the Republican Party went back empty with a note telling them I was not donating to let any of my support go to any Republicans who would vote for the Dem resolution. Also told them I have and will continue to donate only to Duncan Hunter at this time!
Sounds more like the 'patriotism' of John Carry.........
"This strategy is already well underway. In acting on the Omnibus spending bill, the Congress has cut the Army budget for BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) in half. Since BRAC is mandated by law, the Army will have to move money from other accounts in order to meet the BRAC statuatory requirements. One way they have done this is to inactivate the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division rather than to move this brigade from Germany to Fort Bliss (this brigade is just now returning from a tour in Iraq). This will make the brigade unavailable for a return deployment to Iraq when their turn next comes.
"Democrats are also moving to remove funding for an Army Stryker Brigade's equipment from the Supplemental Funding bill. This means that this brigade cannot convert as scheduled and therefore will not be available for deployment to Iraq.
"Their scheme is very transparent to those who understand, but is designed to fool the American people by saying that they are "supporting the troops" and "funding the troops". Neither statement is true today, nor will it be true tomorrow. They are supporting the enemy, of that there is no doubt."
I wrote to my Rep to express my displeasure and tell how happy the enemy must be with her vote.
Some may say it's freedom of speech. I call it 246 traitors to this Nation.
I believe this is GOOD news for conservatives in the long run. The Democrats can't see further than their crooked noses.
Pinging you to post 180 since I mentioned you.
This is just the opening salvo. Pelosi and Murtha are already planning to withhold funding for the troops using readiness standards to prevent their deployment. Thye will be emboldened by the passage of this resolution.
Here's a link to a video of Ric Keller(FL) telling the Congress in June, 2006 how our troops deserve 100% of our support:

And now he votes on a resolution that denigrates what they are trying to do over there.
Let's make sure he's defeated in 2008.
The President should announce that he will veto the measure (even though it isn't being forwarded), and those who voted against it should announce that they will not change their votes to allow the veto to be overridden.
Then, the President should issue a written Executive Finding of Rebuke against the members voting to defund and demoralize our troops as well as embolden our enemies.
The House Republican minority leader should read it into the Congressional Record.

Symbolism is a 2-way street.
