WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush's decision to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

The vote on the nonbinding measure was 246-182.

Resolution criticized President Bush for his decision to send more troops to Iraq is a rare admonishment of a wartime commander-in-chief.

"The passage of this legislation signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote when she endorsed the measure that takes issue with Bush's decision to send an additional 21,500 U.S. troops into battle.

On the bright side, 181/198 Republicans voted "NAY". That's about 91.5% standing in the face of pressure. The Dems were nowhere near that united when they didn't have the gavel.

Since it is non-binding, this is really just the equivalent of childish name-calling in the schoolyard. It should be treated as such by the Bush administration, and completely ignored.

To ignore all this can be a political winner, voters on both sides lack appreciation for do-nothing blowhards, and they will be exposed as just that if Bush withholds any kind of acknowledgement, and plows ahead.

"I noticed that right off - what's with this clown."

I did a little checking on Ron Paul after seeing him touted by some of the 'most vocal' Freepers.

Looks like he has wander WAY off the reservation some time ago.

If they are concerned about representing their constituents, let them CUT THE FUNDING. That's what the left base wants, but these cowards don't dare do what will genuinely appease them. No, no, no.... why do anything of any real, actual substance? This way they get it all: the media hailing them as courageously standing against the evil president, and the war ISSUE to continue harping on.
This non-binding stunt has the same effect of them sitting around smelling their own... well, you know.

Yea? Well what do you tell the troops? Just ignore the fact that the House of Representatives of the United States of America just stuck their tongues out at them?

Sorry, that doesn't cut it. Not for me anyway.

Hannity singled out Chris Shays of CT and Heather Wilson of NM as two Republican Representatives who stood up for the troops though they were narrowly reelected in Democratic districts. He said they were to be commended for their principled stand. I couldn't agree more.

From this day forward, for each soldier who dies in Iraq, we should send his photo to these Congressmen with a note saying "You voted to kill this soldier."
