Thankfully, that won't be necessary, as we have a fine candidate in Duncan Hunter who meets the criteria of conservative ideology and personal integrity, and who is gaining increasing exposure everyday. Of course, this will not be noticed by anyone with an acute case of cranial rectumitis.

Guliani would make mincement out of Hillary and her vaunted "files". These files are the biggest load of crap around and are blamed by Right Wingers for more things than Bush is by the Left.

There are NO "files" of any power which Hillary has from the FBI. Ancient history will not determine victory in 08.
Leadership will. Thus, barring some unforseen catastrophe we will be seeing President Guliani sworn in in 2009.

The only question is will the Ultras completely marginalize themselves with their viscousness or will they confine their opposition to civil means and retain some influence.

"The 'right' now would be well left of the 'right' of the last generation, and would be tried for sedition 3 generations ago." In order to post that foolishness you must be unaware of the definition of "sedition".

There is only one party of treason and that is THE Party of Treason.

Yeah, only liberalism wins voters.

But you're not trying to move the party left or anything...

If Guliani were to get the nomination and win he has said his judicial picks would be along the lines of Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts. Now some might say he cannot be trusted but I think most of his enemies do not accuse him of lacking integrity.

Hence, if he is true to his word the Abortion issue will be addressed to your liking.

Look at the alternative with Hillary getting to make two or more Court picks. The Anti-abortion movement would be crippled for decades.

only the MSM (his "base"), and the ignorant masses that rely on it, believe McCain has a chance in hell of winning the nomination.

I am happy that McCain is not way behind. I am appalled that Giuliani is way ahead.

"...keep in mind that the 2nd amendment only applies to the federal govt..." That was only true until the 14th amendment was passed incorporating the BoR into state law.

It is true that the 2d protects the right of the PEOPLE to kaBA. That is much different that protecting the right of every individual to have arms. There in no right of the criminal class or the mentally ill to own guns. Nor is there a right to own EVERY weapon.

The BoR was initially intended to apply only to the federal government as Barron v Baltimore affirms. This changed after the ratification of the 14th amendment.

Jerky insults of those who can actually see what is happening does not get Hunter past the 1% mark. He is getting NO traction at all which is regrettable to me but still true. Hunter will drop out within the next six months and endorse Rudy. What will you say then?

I assume someone has pointed out by now that this wasn't even a poll of Republicans? The people who will actually make this decision? The Democrats who got scooped up in this poll clearly would pick Rudy over McCain. So, this doesn't really tell us anything at all.

"Yeah, only liberalism wins voters." I don't see how Republicans win ANY races, ANY time, ANY where given the pervasive ability of the Treason Media to paint the GOP as filled with Right Wing Christian zealots ready to start burning witches at any opportunity.

There is no real ideological competition today because the conservative alternative is painted in completely false and lurid colors by the Treason Media while liberalism is described as sweetness and light, truth and humanity, and decency itself.

"But you're not trying to move the party left or anything..." So you are blaming ME because no one more conservative than Guliani is able to even make it to the consciousness of the People? I wish there was one who could give him a little run for his money.

The issues of abortion, gay rights, gun control, voting records, military history, etc, are lessor issues to most people but will be hotly contested in the primary fight within each party's base.

I disagree on abortion being a lessor issue in the general election. It is a key issue for swing voters in several battleground states:

Giuliani’s Electoral Downside

...At one point, the thought behind Malanga’s comment was the conventional wisdom. Socially-conservative views, notably opposition to abortion, were required to get the Republican nomination in presidential and many other races, but hurt the candidate in the general election.

The generalization never had much evidence to support it. It was true that opposition to abortion bought candidates worse news coverage, and true as well that some measures of public opinion found the public to support legal abortion. But other measures of public opinion, at least as good, found the public to be mildly pro-life. Among voters who considered abortion a top issue, meanwhile, pro-lifers clearly predominated.

In recent years, the conventional wisdom has changed. In the 2004 election, it was widely recognized that abortion was a bigger political problem for pro-choice Democrats than pro-life Republicans. John Kerry agonized over the issue; at one point his campaign disinvited Kate Michelman, who had long headed the abortion lobby NARAL, from a rally. The crucial swing voters in that election were not the “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” people who are disproportionately found among the college-educated. Rather, they were social conservatives, often Catholics, who were receptive to Democratic appeals on economic issues. Those voters were the great prize the campaigns sought in Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Iowa.
