Unless you see from question 13 that the support isn't all that strong once you get outside the limited-choice scenarios that the poll specified.

Hmmm - that's interesting. And much as I like Jeb, I think people are sick of the Bush family.

Rudy has led almost all the polls from the very beginning and continues so today. Speaks volumes about how he is connecting at a gut level with a wide spectrum of voters.

Bob Tyrell, Jr., is a conservative reporter and was around long before FR or any other conservative web site was around. He's the most staunchly conservative reporter you've probably never heard of. LOL
He endorses Rudy.
And Rep. Sessions (98% lifetime conservative rating) endorses Rudy.

I think Mitt has a strong chance to win. He's got a lot of universal appeal to a wide range of voters. I don't think he'd be as strong a president as Rudy, but I wouldn't cry in my soup if it was Mitt either.

Does our party really suck this much?
Only time will tell. But McCain has to go, the sooner the better. The picture should begin to clear as McCain's support moves to other candidates. As this point, McCain is just in the way. He is a war hero; but he has never had the insight necessary to balance the levers of presidential politics.

Social Conservatives are left out in the Cold in 2008
A full 1/3 of so called SOCONS voted rat in 2006. If they cant be counted on why bother appeasing them? Besides if they voted rat, then obviously there convictions are meaningless.

the base likes him, and Hispanics seem to like him.
But what you say is true, and its part of the calculation I think. Two scenarios - Hillary wins and Jeb runs in 2012, or Jeb runs in 2016 coming in "cold" from the sidelines. In both cases, the "another Bush?" mantra is going to be a negative for him. But if he runs in 2016 having been VP for 8 years, the comfort level will be higher.

If you nominate Rudy, the remaining two thirds will stay home.

Insight, temperament, loyalty, foresight... McCain doesn't have much of anything. He's been a professional Bush antagonist for the last six years, that's pretty much it. Now that the media doesn't need him anymore, they're not giving him the time of day, and his star is burning out.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

That's very true. If he had any other last name, I think Rudy would probably consider him.
PhiKapMom has some interesting thoughts about a possible VP; I haven't thought that far down the line yet. But this time next year, I'll be thinking about it though!

I think the freeper is saying that 2/3rds of them stayed home in the 2006 election.
If that's true, you don't really think Republicans are going to cater to that vote do you?

This is the real split that's coming for the Republican party. If it turns out that a majority or even a large enough percentage of Republicans truly are social liberals then obviously something's going to break.

Okay, But we pick up unprecedented levels of independents, moderates, and Reagan democrats in the process (70% of the population). Let's also not forget Pat Robertson said he would make a good president so I am not convinced he would lose a huge percentage of the SOCON vote.
