Gore announces 'global warming' concerts
By MICHAEL R. BLOOD, Associated Press Writer 7 minutes ago
Al Gore announced on Thursday a series of worldwide concerts to focus on the threat of climate change, with a powerhouse lineup from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Snoop Dogg to Bon Jovi.
The 24-hour event on July 7 is part of a campaign, Save Our Selves The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis, that promoters hope will trigger a broad movement to address what the former vice president calls a global climate crisis.
"In order to solve the climate crisis, we have to reach billions of people," the environmental activist, filmmaker and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee said in a statement. "The climate crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained global movement."
Gore is often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2008 despite his repeated statements that he's not running. Recently, some former aides met in Boston to discuss a campaign to draft the former vice president.
The concerts on seven continents will bring newfound publicity to Gore, who already is enjoying celebrity status with his Oscar-nominated documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." Gore said he was thrilled that the film, on the perils of global warming, was nominated for best documentary and for best song, the latter nod coming for Melissa Etheridge's "I Need to Wake Up."
The Academy Awards are Feb. 25.
More than 100 performers are scheduled to appear at the July concerts, including Etheridge, the Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, Pharrell, the Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.
Promoters said the Live Earth concerts will take place in Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; London and cities to be announced in Japan, Brazil and the

Al Gore, climate professional.
I think Al ate some!
WHY IT'S GETTING WARM
Tune: "Riders on the Storm"
Why it's getting warm
Why it's getting warm
Is it hotter than the norm
Or just turning back to form
Gore would sound the warning horn
And make cars that run on corn
Why it's getting warm
There's an inconsistent flaw
In his scientific law
There's not one single cause
For why an iceberg thaws
The conclusion that he draws
Is giving us guffaws
An inconsistent flaw
Gore, you incoherent goof
Gore, you incoherent goof
It doesn't take a sleuth
To see your lack of proof
Here's an inconvenient truth
It's still freezing in Duluth
You incoherent goof
Why it's getting warm
Why it's getting warm
Is it hotter than the norm
Or just turning back to form
Gore would sound the warning horn
And make cars that run on corn
Why it's getting warm
Why it's getting warm
Why it's getting warm . . .
sounds like parkas and double insulated Depends will be in order for these affairs, with his track record. ;-)
My sentiments exactly. A lot of fuel will be wasted for the private planes and buses bringing the artists there, not to mention all the people driving there. Plus, it would probably waste a TON of electricity.
Some environmentalist Gore is.
How large will the parking lot be, to accomodate all the people driving to the concert?
What type of traffic control will they have to prevent people from siting in a traffic jam, in idling cars?
Will people be given tickets printed on paper, made from trees, with oil based ink?
Will the concert be acoustic, or will they have electric guitars and amps, using electricity from coal power plants?
Will all the acts be done during the day, or will they be using lighting at night? Again using electricity from coal power plants.
Will they allow beer to be served? Causing mass gas excretions. Also causing massive toxic waste damaging the environment, known as urine.
Man, this Climate Change stuff is totally real. Every Winter, the climate here in Illinois gets colder. Every Summer, the climate gets warmer.
Al Gore is totally smart. He invented the Internet.
[END Brainless Sarcasm that sounds like undergrad students where I work.]
Al Bore GW PING!!!
"The climate crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained crappy pop concert."
There's certainly no one more credible from whom to take scientific advice than a psychotic ex-Vice President and a bunch of musicians. I'm convinced now!
Once again, the "Talent" will show up and be housed in first class hotels with their riders mandating that only green M&M's be in Waterford Crystal bowls and that copious amounts of Perrier (French) Johnnie Walker Black, Jack Daniels (For Tim and Faith) and Krystal, along with Kobe Beef and Beluga sandwiches. They will then be whisked to the venue by Jet Helicopter as the millions of stoned revelers writhe in adoration. AlGore will be appearing as the Supreme EarthDaddy with a special Hemp Shirt and camper shorts. He will chide all to hate Bush/Chaney and adore his superior intellect. Exxon will actually make a mint of this and the stoners attending will leave hundreds of thousands of pounds of debris that will be carted off to a landfill, where in some years it will produce methane further raising the temperature of the Planet.
This is so stupid it isn't funny.
... "and we can only achieve this by holding an event that will USE AS MUCH ENERGY AS IT IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE FOR A SMALL GROUP TO USE."
Tell it to upstate NY where there's over 100 inches of snow on the ground.
Yes, that's a great idea. Have 100s of 1000s of people drive to stadiums to hear music powered with huge amounts of electricity.
NYC is up to it's butt in Global Warming!!!! Gore is making money pushing this lie. If he has provable science, bring it on. Do not try and push off a political stance as science. Gore, go away!!!!!
Snoop Dogg is a hypocrite. He's personally responsible for putting a lot of chronic smoke into the atmosphere.
Yup - and how many of them will be bringing their own, private jets instead of jetpooling? To be totally nonhypocritical, they should all bike to Al's place in Tennessee and board a commercial jet. Not holding my breath, though.
Is Tipper going to want warning labels on the concert tickets?
