The survey taken Friday through Sunday - nearly a year before the first presidential primaries are held - shows Clinton with a 19-percentage-point edge over Illinois Sen. Barack Obama among Democrats and Giuliani with a 16-point margin over Arizona Sen. John McCain among Republicans.

And here I thought I had an original idea.
Just goes to show the intelligence of this audience.
I like knowing my mind is in good company - with some exceptions of course...
And also to you.
actually, it's 2 months..
Here's a thought for you...Rudy will NOT go negative against McCain, expecting McCain to drop out of the race within 6 months, when his poll numbers trend south. McCain may well want to be SecDef..
The Democrats are holding a debate in SC next month.
It could April but one press account here had it March!
I wanted Steele to take over as head of the RNC and wrote my National Committeeman an email before the Winter Meeting and he agreed but Martinez was already chosen by the President. Now Steele heads GOPAC so that organizaton can certainly use his skills.
I was on a thread in January after the meeting and several of us were discussing Steele for VP. Now I have to wonder if it is a consideration since he was the logical choice for RNC but was told there were other plans and now he ends up at GOPAC and starts a consulting organization.
Think you may be on to something!
You and I are on the same wave length -- Secretary of Defense. McCain doesn't act like he did in 2000 when he was going all out to win. I think Rudy's campaign should stay completely positive because the other candidates are going to start dropping out along the way with nothing said.
All you have to do is look at yesterday when Romney announced and the news wasn't about Romney but Rudy and McCain.
No big deal. Just trying to keep some of the events straight in my head... New Hampshire has debates on Apr. 4-5 televised by CNN... These early ones may not draw the leading contenders but be a strutting affair for the wannabes.
I've had the same thought about McCain, PhiKapMom. He's 72 years old, if I recall, and I'm sure he's lost a lot of that fightin' spirit.
Oh, wouldn't Steele make the perfect VP? He's a wonderful speaker and would make the perfect sidekick to Rudy.
There's a debate (Republican) in SC in May; I just got the flyer in the mail yesterday and am making calls today so we can go.
Agree with you on both points. I watched McCain on TV recently and he doesn't have that same intensity he had in 2000 -- not even close.
Can you imagine what a Giuliani/Steele ticket would be like? That would be AWESOME!
Has Rev Al announced? He was the ONLY person I enjoyed from the last debates!
I think Spiff hit the nail on the head. The press is already criticizing Romney for his flip-flops. Hillary is being criticized for her flip-flop on Iraq. Remember how we criticized Kerry for his flip-flop? I think candidates should be judged PRIMARILY by their past words and deeds because they are the only reliable measure! Surely we all know that a candidate will say ANYTHING to get elected. Pandering to one group or another is just part of the corrupt political landscape in America! As for me, I cannot buy into the claim that all these politicians have had an epiphany. Especially when it occurs at election time. I think it is too early to settle on less than a TRUE conservative.
It's amazing the amount of disdain some on FR hold for conservatives; on FR. It's quite the twist of logic for them, who continually run left, to claim that we are the ones who support a leftist agenda. It's nothing more than an attempt to shut up the opposition anyway; not unlike the left using the word racist. Don't want their media annointed candidate? You're a Hillary supporter!
Rudy is a lemming vote, a pure media pick, especially this far out.
Witness welfare reform, which the Republicans forced on Bill Clinton nationally, and which Guiliani forced through in New York City over the objections of the Democrats.
Do your homework. (I'm assuming that you did not deliberately offer false information.)
Congressman Billybob
ROFLOL!!! AWESOME!
That really riles me too! Especially before the primaries, when we have a chance to choose a candidate we actually like - to be told that the decision is already made & if we don't go along with it - we are Hillary supporters!!!
You would think, on a CONSERVATIVE forum like FR - that people would at least give CONSERVATIVE candidates a chance to get their word out before condemning them as losers before they've hardly gotten out of the gate. We've been called names like "moralists" in a truly condescending way - by our own fellow Freepers!
I wish a lot of the Rudy supporters would realize that this method of threats & condescending insults to our moral compass is having the exact opposite effect on the rest of us. I don't care if Rudy is ahead in the polls - at this stage of the game - I want to work hard to get a candidate that I can believe in out there.
I hear people say they agree with what the conservative candidates stand for - but they will still be voting for Rudy in the primaries! WTF???
GO DUNCAN HUNTER !!!
