Giuliani, McCain and Romney are the only credible candidates.

They are losers too.

I wouldnt vote for the back stabbing two faced McCain if you were torturing me.

That bear repeating...a little louder, please.

Other than Ford (appointed), has a Representative ever gone directly to the Presidency?

Good question.

Has a Mayor ever gone directly to the Presidency?

Today I would vote in this order IF they were the nominee:

Hunter
Romney
Giuliani
Third Party
Hillary
McCain

I don't think Hunter will get the nom so basically my vote is going for Romney. Next we have Rudy, at least he *gets* the war on terror. After that if McCain gets the nom then I'll just vote 3rd party. If there ain't a third party candidate worth it I'll just vote Hillary to get the downfall of the nation started quickly instead of slowly and painfully. If Hillary ain't runnin then I guess I'll vote for McCain he is slightly better then Obama or Edwards.

Everyone has his priorities, but I'd NEVER vote Hillary. McCain at least is willing to fight the War on Terror, while Hillary will surrender and make Marxism the sole religion in the USA.

Fortunately you are entirel incorrect on every issue.

Duncan Hunter is a powerful voice for safety and security. Nothing is a bigger turnon for women IMO than a man who makes them feel safe and protected.

Women are smart enough to see through Hillary when the right comparisons are made and they haven't even begun to be made.

I would just like to continue to remind folks how important involvement is. If you like Duncan Hunter's stance DON'T LISTEN to naysayers. They seek to instigate a self fulfilling prophecy of discouragement. Yuck!

Instead sign up and support Duncan Hunter. If someone else better comes along there is no dishonor in changing later.

Please go to www.GoHunter08.com and volunteer and/or donate.

Also, Duncan has a strong following here on Free Republic, so join in by voting for him in the Free Republic straw poll: http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=170

"Nevertheless, he should be supported vigorously if he's the nominee."

Don't misunderstand, I like the guy and would certainly support him if he wins the nomination. In fact, I'll vote for him over any of the "Big Three" in the primaries. But, I don't think that he has a chance in hell of beating The AntiChrist in the general election.

"And yet Abraham Lincoln was a little known Congressman from Illinois when he ran and won?"

And this isn't the middle of the 19th century and Lincoln's adversary wasn't the AntiChrist.

"Nothing is a bigger turnon for women IMO than a man who makes them feel safe and protected."

Actually, I think that the biggest turnon for young single women in America is the freedom to abort any baby that might represent the slightest inconvenience to her personal life. Hillary agrees with that woman, Hunter doesn't.

why does everyone think shed be so hard to beat? she has zero personality, and a voice like sandpaper (i assume worse for men).

the loonie left hates her, moderates hate her and the right hates her. its probally the only election ive ever seen where everyone is focused on the same thing - beating hillary.

There arent enough single woman to vote for her. Im a woman, though not single. I wouldnt vote for hillary and im sick of "star power" I want a real man in office!

Go Duncan Hunter:)

Well, voting Republicans will make up about 30% of the voters in 2008 -- unfortunately Dim voters make up about 30% as well and the other 40% are Independents

I don't think so. Look at the stats. The difference between winning and losing between polar opposites in values is just a few percentage points. It's about turnout. If you give your voters a dud, they won't turnout.

Your scenerio puts independent voters in control. That's just bunk. Thinking people do not sway back and forth on these fundamental issues. Some voters are non-thinking and vote according to looks and style -- stupid stuff. But if they represent 40% of the voting public then we might as well throw in the towel. We are lost. And I am sorry but even IF you could sell me on the idea that Guiliani or McCain or Romney had the style to sway these squishy dumb-dumbs, you still couldn't convince me that I would win anything by supporting them. If they are the Republican candidate, they I lose before the vote takes place. That's how I see it.

(Below are the principles of leadership Americans urgently needs, and Hunter would destroy Hillary in a debate. Americans are not so gullable to fall for her fly by night ideology).

As Chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the U.S House of Representatives I have dedicated the resources necessary to rebuild our military into the strongest and most effective fighting force in the world, after years of the Clinton Administration slashing our Armed Forces through budget cuts and troop reductions,

Our best national security asset is the U.S. soldier.

Through their patriotism, dedication and sacrifice, America is more secure. We must continue to ensure their access to superior training and resources so they can meet the challenges ahead.

Field a National Missile Defense

With Iran and North Korea blatantly ignoring international pressure to stop their efforts to build and field nuclear weapons, we must aggressively pursue a missile defense system that will protect our communities and families from the whims of rogue nations.

Target Terrorists

Our national intelligence and defense communities must be given the tools necessary to identify, track, stop and prosecute terrorists before they have a chance to strike.

Provide for Border Enforcement

Homeland security begins at our nation’s borders. Knowing who and what are entering our country is critical to our efforts to secure our communities and protect our families. Building fences in strategic locations along our international borders is a proven method of keeping America safe.

We must have a Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement corps with sufficient strength to secure our borders and provide for interior enforcement throughout the country.

We must field the manpower and technology at our national ports of entry to allow all cargo coming into the United States to be screened and inspected in a thorough and efficient manner.

Hunter needs to start making some serious moves in the polls, and soon. He doesn't need to be the front runner, but he's got to get into double digits soon. Until he can prove he has a chance to get into the top tier of candidates, it's going to be impossible for him to raise enough money to make a serious run.

McCain's finished, IMO. Despite his current support for the surge in Iraq, he's burned too many bridges with the GOP's conservatives, stabbed President Bush in the back too many times, and demonstrated way too many times that he doesn't have the temperament to be President. Plus, with his skin cancer reportedly flaring back and his age, the questions about his health are inevitable.

Sure he's a top 3 candidate now, but he passed his high water mark some time ago and is now dropping like a rock. The media has no use for him any more since he's switched to campaign mode and stopped attacking the GOP at every turn, so he's lost his only real constituency, which was inevitable at some point anyway.

I'd be thrilled to vote Giuliani/Hunter in '08. I think it would be a good ticket for the reasons you mentioned.

I'd also be thrilled if Hunter were at the top of the ticket, but that's going to be a tough climb for him.
