He's Ready If You Are (Rudy Giuliani)
American Spectator ^ | Feb 8, 2007 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.,

Rudy Giuliani will prevent a conservative crack-up.

Today, after very little effort, Giuliani is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Dick Morris is predicting a Giuliani vs. Clinton race in 2008. Yet some conservatives are dubious of the man who cleaned up New York, returned it to a vigor unimaginable from the 1960s through the 1980s, and then led New York and the country heroically through 9/11. Well, one knows a politician by the company he keeps, and Giuliani has around him the financial people who created the libertarian-conservative Manhattan Institute. He relied heavily on the Institute's policies while governing New York. He will rely on libertarian-conservative policy makers in his race for the White House and once there.

I understand. They're in that transition period. They're trying to break away from their past, but aren't quite ready to vote for full-fledged Republican. Give them time.

So, it's obvious that you ardent pro-Rudy Freepers support him because you are liberals, i.e. you supprt abortion and wish guns to be heavily regulated, if not banned altogether, and you want the GOP to move away from the Reagan-era conservatism towards the more liberal Jacob Javits/Nelson Rockefeller/Mark Hatfield era.

A crock. The majority, if not all of us are pro life and support the 2nd Amendment. I guess you've missed my posts about those matters. Maybe you should educate yourself a little bit before you make such blanket and provably ridiculous statements.

When you call people who don't agree with you about all the issues or about a candidate, I think you're projecting when you call people liberals.

I think Richardson is probably the most qualified candidate of ANY of them out there. But btw Richardson and Rudy, I'd go with Rudy.

but still pick up the difference running leftward on a pro-war platform.

I agree. What I said was that he could probably get some middle-of-the-roaders, but the sacrifice made by hard righties who will NOT vote for him might be too much to overcome.

It makes a LOT more sense to stay closer to home, hold the party together and draw in pro-war, pro-life and pro-gun Reagan Dems. Rudy, IMO, is NOT the guy to do that.

I agree with you here, too. But with half the numbnuts in this country willing to vote for Gore and Kerry, I'm just not sure such a candidate could win.

I just don't know. The country is in a very precarious position these days.

The biggest thing Rudy has going for him is people are still gaga over his post 9/11 performance. He behaved admirably during that time, and I respect him for that.

Given that, I think he is probably the most viable candidate for us to win. However, I think he's about as conservative as Lieberman.

It's a catch 22. Do you choose the one most likely to win, or do you choose the most conservative? I do not think at this point that the two are one in the same.

"You can put Ronald Reagan into that mix; after all he had TWO wives."

Yes, Ronald Reagan did have two wives, but was he having a sexual affair with Nancy Davis, or any other woman while still married to Jane Wyman? Remember, Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman divorced in 1948, and Reagan remarried in 1952. It's impossible Ron and Nancy had an affair while Ron was still married to Jane Wyman as Ron and Nancy didn't meet until 1951.

Ronald Reagan was quite unlike Giuliani or Gingrich where extramarital affairs are concerned. Reagan knew how to keep his pants on, and how to use the head on his shoulders govern his actions.

During the last ABC, 770 news break, it was just announced that a new poll, taken in PENNSYLVANIA, has Rudy winning and not only winning the nomination, but beating Hillary ..............BIG TIME!

Polls mean absolutely nothing right now.

SE, now is the time to gather your powder that will launch your projectiles a few months from now.
Do not allow yourself to be baited into firing on an insignificant target.
Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes because hisory has shown that the field of battle is likely to change.

I'd say clearly Rudy will pick up a lot of people who would not normally vote Repub. He's going to pick up swing voters and Independents in droves.

WHAT kind of person could look at Hillary versus Rudy and decide to vote for her????? :)

Oh, that makes a bunch of sense. The further left you go, the greater the antiwar sentiment. And Rudy, running as a leading supporter of the WOT, is gonna draw these people in?

If the GOP is gonna win in 2008, they will need to hold the party together. Rudy will not be able to do that with his pro-choice, pro-gay, pro-gun-control and pro-amnesty past.

Are you having trouble getting on the Rudy ping list? Seems like it, as many times as you have requested such:

Please put me on the Rudy Ping List.

Add me to the Ping List of the next POTUS.

I'm sure it's just a clerical error that you haven't been added. I'd hate to think you were trying to make it seem like a bunch more people are signing up for the ping list by repeatedly asking to be added to it time and time again.
