Hundreds Of Sharks Prompt Warnings

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Visitors to Palm Beach are being advised not to go in the water because of shark sightings.

Warnings posted said hundreds of bull sharks and lemon sharks have been seen swimming along the surf, the sand bar and farther out in the Atlantic Ocean.

Lifeguards say the shark invasion happens a few times a year, often in March.

The sharks pass by every spring while migrating to their summer homes up North.

Officials first spotted the sharks Wednesday morning and said there were less by the afternoon. They're hoping there will be even fewer today.

My son is going to Gulf this weekend. I'll be sure to give him my annual Chief Brody warnings before he leaves.

Time for Ted Kennedy to rouse out of his Palm Beach mansion and go for a swim.

He'd be enought to feed the whole school and establish Fla as winter feeding grounds.

Oh no, they usually pass through in March?! You know what that means: one more example of global warming! /s

They'd spit Kerry back out. Don't like that rich French food.

Sharks in the Gulf attacked and sank a shrimp boat.

Bulls and Lemons are both known to attack people. Bull sharks are particularly dangerous - maybe the worst of all maneaters. White Sharks tend to strike at the center of bodymass then spit out the victim to hover nearby and wait for him to bleed to death (allowing the victim time to get out of the water), but Bull Sharks strike arms and legs. They will rip a limb off (or strip the muscle if they can't bite through the bone)and then come straight back in to nail another.

Survive a White Shark attack and you will usually have a very interesting crescent-shaped scar on your torso to show off. Survive a Bull Shark attack and you will have a hook at the end of the stub of your arm or a prosthetic leg to show off.

Bulls also like shallow water and can often be seen swimming right beside waders and swimmers. Bulls are very aggressive and can get up to twelve feet long.

Just thought I'd point out that Palm Beach isn't on the Gulf. Look north of Boca Raton, north of Ft. Lauderdale.

Living just north of Panama City, we spend numerous weekends at the beach each year. Although I haven't been in the water since I saw Jaws, my children and husband love it. They surf, ride jet skis, everything. I sit on the beach and watch. I once met a gentleman who flies a small plane up and down the beach all day long. He pulls one of those banners advertising a local eatery or juke joint. He wasn't going in the water either. He stated that every day he see rather large sharks swimming around unsuspecting bathers. Nope, not me.
