After struggling to quit smoking in the past, Sen. Barack Obama is trying a cessation aid not available over the counter: public attention.
Obama (D-Ill.) resolved to quit his cigarette habit over the winter holidays, just weeks before his expected presidential campaign would make photographers and reporters an even more regular part of his life.
He said in a Monday interview that, although he has never been a heavy smoker, he has quit for periods over the last several years but then slipped back into the habit. On the cusp of a potential presidential bid seemed the right time to quit for good, he said.

The middle of a campaign is NOT the time to give up smoking in my opinion (but then I've never smoked so it's all hearsay to me).
Bill Clinton tried to give up his vices and look where it got him.

reminds me of a line from one of the Beatle's movies... One of the Beatles fathers was in the movie chasing women, and every once in awhile the Beatles would stop and say "he sure is clean for a dirty old man"

I think if he smoked it would be hilarious to see him out on the balcony smoking since he would be living in a public building. Surely DC as a smokig ban! LOL

The fact that Obama has had little experience won't hurt his run for the presidency. That he is Black is an asset, not a liability to Democrats -- ditto the middle name of "Hussein". But a cigarette- smoker? He'll never get past the primaries with that habit, Better he'd have cheated on his wife repeatedly, had a gay lover on the side, was an off-the-wagon alcoholic or drug addict and dined with Osama bin Laden regularly, than to be an "unforgivable cigarette-smoking sinner".
But switching to cigars might be OK! ;)

This thread may seem insignificant, but it really sums everything up in pretty wrapping paper and a bow.
I called it. Obama will pull a "Bloomberg". He'll quit his habit and become a liberal nanny state do-gooder spokesman against tobacco.
I'll leave it to anyone else here to fill in the blanks as to why he won't be able to quit.
