The enemy is liberalism. Not conservatism.

One wouldn't know that by reading this thread. Really, it's an eye-opener.

Could you see his hands when he said that? Any fingers crossed? I will try to be open minded, but I do need to be convinced. I do not want to see the party in shambles, but neither will I give up my core principles to win an election.

"The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime routinely do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed—where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once."
Judge Alex Kozinsky

* Deliberately manufacturing many more firearms than can be bought for legitimate purposes such as hunting and law enforcement, and knowingly targeting these excess guns to criminals, youths and other persons unqualified to buy firearms; - It would be interesting to see the details on how these guns were "knowingly" targeted at those unqualified to buy them

* Deliberately undermining New York City's gun control laws by flooding markets with looser gun laws with firearms that the manufacturers know are destined to be illegally resold in New York City; - How is a gun manufacturer responsible to know their ultimate destination once they've sold the merhandise to a distributor?

* Ignoring the illegal practices of gun distributors, many of whom openly engage in the above practices; - Again, unless the distributors are subsidiaries of manufacturers, I fail to see how it's the legal responsibility of a company to police its customers

* Refusing to manufacture safer guns, with such features as trigger locks and "personalization" measures that allow only authorized persons to fire the weapon. - Hahahaha! You can't possibly think targeting manufacturers for this is a good thing. If these measures are required by the state, pass laws to that effect. Don't try to accomplish it by bullying businesses via the courts.

How about Newt??

Since you asked: You and I both know that I'm solidly in R.G.'s cornor. I'm pretty much just waiting for an address to send the check too.

However, if Newt were to win the nomination, I could and would pull the lever for Newt without any hesitation whatsoever. Newt is a smart man, a wise man, and a good man, and unlike some, I don't hold his marital history against him at all.

Still, I think we all know that Rudy is going to be the candidate. I know some are going to fight it tooth and nail, but in the end, I think we all know who's emerging from the primaries as the man.

It's almost two years until the election. We can't know what will happen between now and then. I do know that we conservatives HAVE to stop being one-issue voters if we ever want to elect another Republican president. We have to look past all of our pet issues to the person who has the most ability to lead the country. Presidents do not make law, Congress does. We can be more careful with our votes at the local level and build a conservative Congress, but we are at war and we need a strong leader with experience and intelligence, and that ain't Hillary.

I agree, WVNan.

I think Coca Cola can be sued for making too many Cokes and forcing kids to become fat!

McDonald's should be sued for making too many hamburgers for legitmate reasons, we should be limited to eating 2.5 hamburgers per month and evil McDonald's floods the market with hamburgers, especially in the inner city!

"Has the Free Republic become the DU-lite? There are people here using the Clintoon angle on so many issues. It is frightening"

I never thought I'd see the day a Freeper said the gun industry should be sued for making too many guns than hunting and cops' needs warrant!

Or that believes gun manufacturers should be sued into requiring electronic safety's so only specific people use that gun.

I wish all the liberals would leave Freep so we can be conservative again...it is one thing to support Rudy KNOWING that he is at best simply a bulwark against the unspeakable evil of Hitliary, it is another thing entirely to support him because you are pro-abortion and want handguns to be banned.

I will never understand why the liberal Freepers don't just join a moderate Republican's forum.

Ed

Yes, I'm well aware of that.

Herman started his political career as a race card hysteric and foaming at the mouth liberal; I hated him. He finally saw the light, changed, and has tried to undo and/or fix things. radical minority groups have given him a lot of trouble, but in the end, he's stood tall and done the right thing.

Because we AREN'T "liberal Republicans", nor "LIBERAL" anything.

And most of us have been CONSERVATIVES far longer than ALL of the RUDY HATERS.

Your assumptions are erroneous and your tactics are childish.

Geez! If anyone read our posts together, they'd think we're members of the VRWC... which suits me fine.

My wife accuses me of being a desendent of Teddy Roosevelt and General Patton.

Oh goody a for REAL straw man argument, that is patently false.<>Gawd, I know you're not this funny on purpose.

Please make your case about two things that are factually inaccurate on Spiff's chart.

You can't pull a Kerry and just say it's wrong without demonstrating such.

RUDY HATERS.

HAAATER! HAAATER!

So you're emulating the Clintons by trying to dismiss valid criticism as the work of haters. And you're emulating Kerry by saying Spiff's chart is a lie without showing where any of those lies are.

Boy, you sure have a winning approach. If you worked for the DNC.

I am with you 100% -- we have been in the trenches so losing is not something we enjoy! I doubt if some of these folks have every knocked a door, put out flyers, made phone
calls, or many other things for campaigns because if they did, they would never threaten to stay home and not vote.
