articles like these make one wonder if the media are not only cheerleaders but consultants to terrorists

Their loose lips are a point of pride for them.

Same here EF. The info is nothing that most Houstonians don't already know. But there are safeguards in place that are not public knowledge.

Thanks. I don't live in Houston anymore...moved to a rural area of Southern Alabama.
I expect this article could be written about any major city in the US, just change the airport names.

I agree with your assessment of the MSM. I figured since it has already been published, is on the net, and most everyone already knows about Houston and the various facilities on the gulf that I wasn't posting anything out of line.
That being said, if you feel it should be pulled go ahead and ping the mods.

Taking an aircraft out for a "joyride" is a little harder than is being represented. You have to do a proper pre-flight to make sure it's in good shape. It needs to be fueled and the fuel checked. All of the aircraft I've flown have keys to the door. Taking off from a small field with no active tower or ground control requires knowledge of the unicom frequency to advise other pilots in the pattern and on the ground of your intentions. It's a good idea to check the ATIS for wind speed, direction and barometric pressure to ensure your altimeter is correct. My average prep time to take a Cessna 150 out was about 1 hour from the time I parked my car at the FBO.

The preflight inspection is less than 5 minutes. If local I would start the engine and go. If on a cross country I would get my clearance from the tower and go. Unless there was a lot of traffic from the time I started the engine or engines I would normally be in the air within ten minutes.

Let's be sure to thank the tv station when the terrorists plan to do the very things here and say "We saw it on American television. Before that, we were just praying to Allah for inspiration."

I think a bigger worry for Houston is a Cat 5 coming up Galveston Bay . . .

Absolutely.
(Houston PING)
With 45+ minute car chases being a matter of routine and a monster 36 hour traffic jam during the Rita evacuation (much of it centered within the outer borders of Harris County) due to poor communication, there is no doubt that Houston is an easy target. There are also some choice targets but I won't list them.
Any terrorists are more likely to be stopped in the act in Houston if they are also drawing graffiti on walls, smoking in public, or running red lights.
