WASHINGTON - Former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., is backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Romney announced in a statement Thursday.
Talent will serve as domestic policy task force chairman for Romney's presidential exploratory committee. Talent will oversee all domestic policy development in that position.
"With Jim's experience and extensive knowledge, he will help us look beyond the status quo and answer these challenges with bold, new approaches," Romney said.
Talent lost his bid for re-election last year to Democrat Claire McCaskill.
"Gov. Romney has shown extraordinary leadership during his many years of service," Talent said in a statement. "He has a strong conservative vision and a successful record of accomplishing that vision. I am proud to be part of his exploratory committee and ready to help him craft innovative policy solutions."
I'm no Romney fan yet,
but Ralph Reed is rumored to be signing-on as well.
Talent couldn't beat Crazy Claire McCaskal, I don't know if I would want him on my campaign staff.
Talent, Reed? Whose next...Mike Dewine?
Talent lost because the stem cell issue passed. The margins for his race and the stem cell thing were identical. Add to that W's lie about Rummy and changing course, and Jim would have won it.
Something about Romney disturbs me, but if Talent is endorsing him, I will have to withhold judgment.
Lincoln Chafee
Lincoln Chafee?? Here's the thing. Those type of people are not flocking to Romney they are going to McCain (Snowe, Collins, Graham, Lott) Romney is getting all solid conservatives. I would still be cautious about Romney, but you can't just dismiss anyone who supports him as a RINO.
DeMint,Talent, Blackburn, and Feeney sure as hell aren't RINO's.
It was a joke.
You'll never see him in a blue sterile suit, I can guarantee that.
Yeah, maybe that will help us with all those soccor moms. Its unbelieveable how many of them vote for looks.
..every time I hear the name Romney--the word "brainwashed" comes to mind--nothing against the Governor...
Talent couldn't even beat an ignorant hag, so I'm guessing it won't matter much.
Ron Paul - Accept no substitutes ! :-D
Is that Sam Malone?
Its funny how one by one, as various conservatives are supporting Romney or saying possitive things about him they each get dismissed as RINO's or are all of a sudden no good.
Talent, Romney, Blackburn, Feeney, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Mike Gallagher, Michael Medved, Hugh Hewitt
God no, can't Reed endorse some idiot who has no chance like Huckabee or Tancredo? He'll wreck whomever he nominates. The guy is a walking disaster.
Also add that he is far and away the most experienced executive of the lot. Not only as a governor, but also in his brilliant venture capital career (can you say Staples).
In a perfect world, he would not be my candidate. But in the real world with the existing bench, he is far and away the best nominee and, I believe, ultimately will prove to be the most electable.
Oh, did I mention that he is mentally stable and has no skeletons?
I'm not raining on Romney's parade here. He has alot of good people supporting him. I was raining on Talent.
Hell, if he is left standing after the primaries he may even get my support.
Anyhow, Talent was a good Rep and Senator, I was very sad to see his loss.
If Romney makes it, I'm hoping Talent gets a good post. Maybe AG.
As for Romney, many people get an uneasy feeling about Romney after being exposed to him for a while. I've been following him for 12 years now and I'm convinced he's just another phony politician willing to say anything to gain power. Sure, the guy has some business and managerial experience, but I wouldn't want to see him as president.
