Giuliani Would Defeat Hillary in New Jersey (Quinnipiac alert)
angus-reid.com ^ | 1/31/2007 | Staff

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the favourite Republican United States presidential contender for voters in the Garden State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 48 per cent of respondents in New Jersey would vote for Giuliani in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In other match-ups, Rodham Clinton holds a one-point edge over Arizona senator John McCain, and a 24-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. McCain leads former North Carolina senator John Edwards by six points, and Illinois senator Barack Obama by three points.

In 2004, Democratic nominee John Kerry carried New Jersey’s 15 electoral votes, with 53 per cent of the vote. No Republican has won the Garden State since George H. Bush in 1988.

Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Polling Data

If the 2008 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were (the Democrat) and (the Republican), for whom would you vote?

Rudy Giuliani (R) 48% - 41% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 43% - 44% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
Mitt Romney (R) 29% - 53% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 45% - 39% John Edwards (R)
John McCain (R) 42% - 39% Barack Obama (R)

(sic) re: all the erroneous "(R)" designations.

Source: Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Methodology: Telephone interviews to 1,310 registered Ohio voters, conducted from Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, 2006. Margin of error is 2.7 per cent.

I never gave it a thought until I tried to come with names of Conservatives who were also leaders who would be willing to run. I cannot think of any. I don't count Romney because he is pandering to Conservatives IMHO.

I have eaten a lot of rubber chicken and some things I am not sure what it was they served, heard a lot of speeches, and can count on one hand the number of speeches that haven't made me tune out.

Republicans have also done a louzy job in running candidates for Governor as we lost so many Governorships. We have a vocal leadership void and you are right we have not developed a consistent message. Having McCain in your party doesn't help.

Reagan changed the entire world. We'll benefit from Reagan's vision, conservative values and principles and steadfast resolve to see it through for generations to come (as long as we work to uphold them and not allow the liberals to weaken our own resolve that is).

Seems like the left is pushing Giuliani, so they get Clinton either way. I think he would be great on terrorism and managing the government.

(I have extensive professional experience in such endeavors.)

So do I and I don't know anybody who has a response plan for a commercial passenger plane, loaded with fuel, to deliberately fly into a building.

What GOP Leadership? Big money is going to Rudy from the Bush campaign. I know part of the leadership and like my one Senator -- not McCain.

I did have family involved. That somehow means I did not? Having no plan after you have been attacked once already in the same place is just plain negligent...

Feb. 5, 2008, may become Super-Duper Tuesday with, perhaps, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Utah voting on the same day..

Think about that. That means the nominee won't just be able to go to IA and NH shake some hands and come from nowhere.

They will need an entire national ground game and close to 100 million to buy radio and TV ads within a year.

They have to make the ads ....hire thousands of people..pollsters...consultants...the logistics in this time constrain are staggering.

There are 5-6 people in the country who can pull that off. Rudy,Romney,McCaine, Hillary and maybe Obama, Colin Powell,Edwards.

The rest of the pack is already toast.

Mccaine is looking older and more bitter evey day...I think he has alienated the the GOP Leadership.

If Mccaine looks like Dole two and would go down in flames against Hillary which is looking more likely every day,,,,...It's Rudy....game over.

You will most likely have the priests saying vote against them because Keating isn't well liked by some Church leaders. Understatement!

I cannot think of anyone else for VP that would give a WOW to that position either that is also a social conservative.

Nopardons, your post made me smile. You're making me feel ancient here; I was talking about the 80's vs. today. You must be verrrrrry young.

preach morality.

I wouldn't call it preaching, more like acting in the best interest of our nation.
Including the standards of those who vote the POTUS into office.

Just my observation.

An evacuation plan for a tall building that had a previous explosion in the underground parking?

Everybody above the ground floor is at risk.

"Having no plan after you have been attacked once already in the same place is just plain negligent..."

Here's a little enlightenment for you pal,

Do you know how many THOUSANDS of people were successfully evacuated from the WTC that morning?

I do....I was there.

The vast majority of people that were killed were on the floors above the impact of the planes.

I saw the hundreds of trapped workers jumping for their lives from the upper floors because there WAS NO WAY TO ESCAPE.

You should really keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you're talking about.

To say that Rudy was a failure that day is just plain ignorant.

You got a problem with Rudy, don't vote for him. Who gives a Sh*t.

But your lies will be exposed to everyone and your credibility on this website destroyed.

Good luck, PAL.

I think any honest, decent conservative that has a track record of standing tall for America and for the conservative platform can beat Hillary, even Newt. Maybe even especially Newt. Are you saying that if a conservative Republican gets the nomination you won't vote for him?

There were massive numbers of people evacuated. In fact, almost everyone below the impact lived. Very few died under the impact zone.

Weren't there 50,000 people in the two buildings? I know Morgan Stanley had the first 40 floors of one tower as I work with them all the time.

I would say evacuation was hugely successful.
