Jan 31, 2007 — About 98 percent of Harley's nearly 2,800 unionized workers have voted to strike. The contract expires at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and picketing will begin at that time, union representatives said.
Discussions on the proposed labor contract began at 9 a.m. today in the Toyota Arena at the York Expo Center, where the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 met.
What I am saying is that if his guy put his up against an older(?)suzuki Boulevard street cruiser he should have easily beat it. Sounds like the guy didn't know how to launch and or shift was his biggest problem...

I recommend you get a copy of Basic Economics by Dr. Thomas Sowell. Read it. It's one of the best books on the subject I have ever read, and that's after taking economics in college. It will help you understand why what you wrote isn't true.
I don't mean to bash you or anything, and I'm sure that you're completely sincere in your belief. But with the probable exception of workplace safety, unions have done little that normal economic pressure wouldn't have accomplished. And their overall effect on the economy is a very clear negative.
In our day, the primary goal and effect of union labor is that workers are paid more than their work is worth. In a union shop, it's harder to fire those who need firing. It's nearly impossible to reward better work with better pay. Union goons intimidate, harass, threaten and even assault those who don't obey their wishes.
I work very near a number of union shops, though my current employer is not, thank heaven! I know very well how unions work and what they want.
But let's not forget that the companies agreed to these contract items, also.
Fair enough. But the company's choice when threatened with a strike is: (1) Agree to hurtful concessions and delay the damage to the company, or (2) go out of business immediately.
So, while it's true that a bad mgmt can run a company into the ground and put workers out of jobs, it's also true that the Union is partly responsible for keeping the company in business.
My main complaint about unions and social security scams are, though, the point about imorally saddling future generations with current gains for the present generation.
Companies, I wish, had chosen option #2, though it woulda been seen as cold-hearted capitlist raiders....when in truth....workers would've had to have found new jobs at lower wages and benefits without stealing from future generations.
I have mentioned in earlier posts that I am not a union member and do not support unions as they are constituted presently. Again, I think present union leadership are shills and hacks for the liberals.
I also mentioned that I believe that negotiations should be done fairly with consideration given to the economic state of the company by both sides.
I am with you on taking today and paying tomorrow. I have worries about what we will leave our children and grandchildren.
Social security bothers me for the reason that so many people seem to accept it as a basically good idea.
I am in the minority, I guess, perhaps with you in that I think it is unfair--even if it wasn't nearly 'bankrupt.'
The concept of submitting future generations to a financial agreement where their load is ever greater than the current generation's burden---I just don't think that is fair or moral.
In fact, I think it may be MORE unfair the more it is "secured."
Strengthening Social Security for "the children" is like hardening the chains of slaves.

It was in response to the ergonomics. The Rebel is one of the few bikes that I think fits me well. As far as powered, it's not possible since I do like to ride on the highway.

Hey, I truck my bike to Myrtle beach twice a year for the bike rallies.
Granted, I am pulling a popup camper and about 5000pounds of luggage for Hottiegirl.
If it was just me, I would ride a bike down there with nothing but a change of drawers. But we make a camping event out of the week.
I have made the ride many times. At this point, I like to take the camper and I don't want to risk a broken chain or a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere...
I dont see what difference it makes how you get there. When I was 35 or 40 I rode to Daytona every year.

Different people have different priorities. Mine is getting there safely and having fun. Being rained on ,snowed on frozen solid is not one of them. Not any more. I have been there and done that, the younger troops can have it now.
I've got a true story for you. See, for some reason or another idiot squids, usually twenty-somethings feel the need to act outrageously stupid every time they see a guy on a Harley.
One night I was headed home from a friends house and found myself out on 78 when it was nearly deserted. I pulled up alongside this guy on the crotch rocker dejour, who then promptly raced from light to light doing wheelies, stoppies and assorted stupid dog tricks for several miles. He always made sure I caught back up (I was doing the speed limit, I don't ride like an idiot). Well, at the last light he does this incredible stoppie, it truly was impressive. Well, when he came down his muffler fell off.
Now of course, I'm finding this outrageously funny, and blatantly laughing in this fool's face. Then rocket scientist that he is, he walks up to the damned thing and picks it up with his bare hands. This lasted, oh, about a second before he screams and drops it. Of course I'm on the verge hurting myself with laughter at this time.
That's when it really got amusing. Dimmy then decides to get all bad-assed and proceeds to cuss me and threaten, and otherwise prove he's a ------. He took 3 steps towards me when I reached for some other American Iron, chambered in .45acp. At that moment I became Mr. Biker, Sir.
Now that's a story! A true one at that.
