WASHINGTON -- Actress and long time peace activist Jane Fonda, a favorite target of right-wing attacks since the 1970s for her high-profile opposition to the Vietnam War, will rejoin the ranks of the antiwar movement today at a major rally in Washington.
The return to the spotlight for the Hollywood star derisively known as "Hanoi Jane" for going to North Vietnam at the height of the war, was seen by some activists and chroniclers of the antiwar movement as politically risky. They said her presence could be distracting in a rally that organizers hope can capitalize on congressional opposition to President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.
"I wonder if the appearance of someone like Jane Fonda is going to pull attention away from other messages," said Rhys Williams, a University of Cincinnati sociologist who has chronicled American anti war movements. "If I were an organizer, I would worry how much her presence is going to be dominating the news cycle."
Though it's been decades since she posed atop a North Vietnamese anti aircraft gun, many Vietnam veterans are still angry . Fonda later apologized -- but didn't say she was sorry for fervently opposing the Vietnam War.
~~snip~~
"The enemies of this nation are feeling so emboldened that they are confident enough to bring Jane Fonda to a MEMORIAL for the United States Navy," the conservative website Freerepublic.com decried in an "urgent" post. Fonda "posed with our enemy [in North Vietnam] on an anti aircraft battery used to shoot down our Navy pilots."
bump
The message of everyone there is "Look at me!!!"
She also talked about drawing wrath because of all of the lies told about her. I want to know what lies were told about her...other than the ones she tells about herself.
She should be rotting in a jail cell.
Fonda, Glover, and Sarandon better move fast. Human rights beased democracy jusyt might take root if they fail to get America to surrender within the next couple of months.
There, I fixed it.
I heard earlier on Fox that Hanoi Jane had "apologized" for her North Vietnam ignominy. As I recall, it was one of those "no apology" apology, similar to John Kerry's "I'm sorry if you misunderstood or took my remarks the wrong way." Liberals don't apologize -- they just find ways to slough-off their guilt... the guilt they so richly have earned and deserve.
Where is the button to make "urgent" posts?
I for one would be glad to see Jane pose on an IED.
It wasn't opposition. It was sedition, on enemy soil, for propaganda purposes, in the middle of a war, only miles away from Americans who were being tortured.
Pathetic skank reliving her glory days. The deaths of US soldiers today will thrill and delight her. May she rot in hell...

Some of our family is French and consequently we get French satellite TV. Jane speaks a little (heavily accented) French, but enough that she could take part in an interview on French TV in the fall of 2005. I saw it.
They asked her point blank if she was sorry for what she had done.
She answered "Je ne regret rien" (sounding Edith Piaf!) added an "absolument rien" and then added that she regretted only one thing, that she was smiling for the camera while sitting in the gunner's seat of that AA gun.
Some apology.
Maybe we can find a suicide bombers car for Fonda to pose on :-)
Old lady Fonda should give it up before people start to wonder if she has not gone funny in the head.
My dear old Dad was flying around Vietnam, getting shot at by hostiles, at the same time this soul-less animal was playing kissy-face with the commies.
I have not forgotten nor will I forgive her.
I think that Hanoi Jane needs to go and talk face to face with the Taliban.
The Urinal Cake resurfaces.
