My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding. They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.
Prayers for Carrie and her family.
Renewed prayers for Carrie and her family. We have a new year, and with that comes new hope! Thank you Dolly for the update some time back. I just found this thread after quite a while being awol.
Polly
you are most welcome
anticipating an update soon from carrie’s mom
Continued prayers for Carrie and for perseverance and encouragement for her family.
Hello, everyone,
Here are some prayer requests for Carrie and the New Year: Jan 21, 2010
1. Carrie has someone coming over Friday at 11 a.m. His name is Joel and he specializes in "communication devices" for people that have trouble communicating. Our speech therapist, Peggy, recommended him. We are very excited about the possibility of Carrie being able to communicate with us. She has been able to point at things, but this still takes a really long time. But Peggy has found that Carrie can do some math problems, and she can spell, and has answered questions in the past. Please pray that Joel will have wisdom to know exactly what device to use with Carrie, and that she will be able to use it with success.
2. She still has trouble sitting since her hospitalization. This is something the physical therapist works on. Please pray for greater strength in her trunk, and that she would be able to sit without someone supporting her.
3. She has a new piece of equipment coming in a week or so--it is a standing frame. So this way, she will be able to stand on her feet. This is very healthy in many ways, but we have to pray that she will tolerate the new position and that standing will be beneficial for her.
4. Pray that the tendons behind her ankle stretch out so that she will be able to stand. She has some "foot drop", which means her foot points downward instead of being flat on the floor. We have some custom foot braces coming, too, that are supposed to help with that.
5. She has been able to urinate on the toilet for a couple of days! This is wonderful news. We hope to get her to have bowel movements regularly, too. That hasn't happened yet. But we are very thankful for the number ones!!
6. Monday is the three year anniversary of her accident. It always makes us extra sad. We need a dose of faith and confidence and heavenly peace!
7.Also on Monday, we meet a new rehab doctor. We decided not to go back to the one we saw in August, since he refused to listen to us. Please pray that this new doctor will have great, fresh ideas and compassion for Carrie.
8.Our insurance company has drastically cut the amount they pay us for the nursing care. I sent them a letter with a compromise solution. I am waiting for their response. It has been VERY stressful. Please pray that they agree to the compromise I suggested.
9.I am meeting with someone named Colleen on Friday. She is a case manager from the Detroit area who knows about insurance issues. I was contacted by her following a phone call I made to a lawyer about the trouble we have had with the insurance company. Please pray that she will also have great, fresh ideas, and this is a beneficial visit.
10. Friday, Carrie has an appointment with a music therapist. This music therapist is so sweet, and there is so much potential to reach her through music. But the last couple of appointments with her have been kind of "dull" from Carrie's perspectives. Please pray with us that we can find a way to reach her and find a way for her to respond.
11. Friday will be a busy day! And today we are seeing the acupuncture doctor for the first time since her hospitalization in November. Pray that what he does will be effective and make a difference.
12. We need to find a neurologist since she has had some seizures. And we always pray for wisdom in finding a new doctor to be on our team.
13. And pray that God would be glorified through all this. Pray for Carrie's complete health, wholeness, and restoration to fullness of life.
We do not want to ever forget to be thankful! We are so thankful for the excellent team of caring and committed people that love her and spend so much time working with her. We are thankful for the many selfless people who continue to pray for her and believe for a complete miracle. We are thankful for the wonderful progress that she has made. That gives us so much hope! We are thankful for her health and vitality and the way she is changing and getting stronger.
To God be all glory and honor!
With love, Mary
Sending more prayer.

Thank you for this update, Dolly. I was thinking of Carrie just yesterday and planned to search for this thread. And then you pinged me.
I can’t believe it is three years already since our dear Gretchen posted this thread for prayers for her cousin.
I’m grateful to learn that she has made progress and to learn more about her medical & physical treatments.
Carrie is in my prayers every day.
Thank you, DollyCali, for posting this encouraging report. I think of and pray for Carrie every day, and have wondered how it was going for her and her family. Hard to believe it’s been three years. And, I DO so miss Gretchen, and pray for her, too. I think she’s in Good Hands now.
Please post your prayers to DollyCali.
Thank you.
Just prayed, and will keep the situation and all involved in my prayers.
