With a few dissents, Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) was elected general chair of the Republican Nat'l Cmte this afternoon. RNC general counsel Mike Duncan was elected chair.
>>I am considering bailing out of the Republican Party and registering as an Independent. I have had a bellyful of this liberal President.<<
Register however you want that's not the important part. When Reagan was elected registered Democrats far outnumbered registered Republicans.
>>It seems we're never happy with the RNC's chair. I found this in my search for the chair's job descrption. <<
It does seem that way.
But look at how the Dems chose Dean - not by who was rational or who was their real leader but by who promised to raise the most internet money... it could be worse.
Just a guess, but how about GOP candidates who also appeal to Independents and centrist democrats? Might be helpful to review who lost.
You see, up until last year, I lived in CA all my life and I would have happily swapped the Maine girls for Boxer and Feinstein.

You're right about that! I must admit, I was totally happy with Haley Barbour sitting in the RNC Chair. He's now my state's governor and I am equally thrilled about that.
I can best fight the forces of evil where they live! LOL!
First of all I didn't support Martinez because he was a sitting member of the Senate. That said, he is not a moderate if you look at his voting record.
Some of you on here need to get your facts straight before jumping off the cliff. As for the ones that say they no longer consider themselves Republican without giving him a chance, you make me laugh. Broken glass Republicans don't give up but live to fight another day.
Obviously some of you have never fought in the trenches and spent years working to get Reps elected to Congress and finally get a Republican House and Senate only to have the johnny come lately's throw a temper tantrum because they didn't get everything they wanted and hand control of the House and Senate back to the DemocRATs.
Some of the statements are not only ludicrous but downright lies. It is always funny when 3rd party types hit these threads with I am no longer a Republican because of ____ fill in the blank!
Would bet over half of you before this didn't have a clue who your national committee men and women were from your state. Now you know how important it is to attend Conventions and elect the right people because they determine the way your State is run and vote on the national chairman.
FYI! The President's wishes on who to become Chairman are usually followed. This is nothing new!
Sit back, relax, and let Duncan get things organized and then start griping if things don't go well and I will join with all of you. Until this team has had a chance, I am not wasting any more time except reading for some humor about this topic. Some of you need to stop drinking koolaid everytime a website someone posts says something negative and go find out the real facts. :)
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Thanks !
IMHO a real conservative who can articulate the position of a conservative in such a way so as to concretely show a benefit to the "traditional" democrat voter. A conservative who talks the talk and walks the walk in all areas of life. Also someone who is unafraid of tackling the real threat to our way of life: Illegal Immigration. I promise you that there are millions of anxious liberals who greatly fear this very thing and are in a near panic mode AND who know that in the privacy of the voting booth lies potential salvation. But they won't vote that way if the GOP candidate offers nothing materially different from their own party. This is the reason that Sean Hannity said that Tom Tancredo could win the White House. Although I think Tancredo has a startling proclivity to alienate core constituents of the GOP like Cubans. You don't win many hispanic votes when you call Miami a third world country...no matter how true it might be! Still, not all legitimate hispanic citizens will be favorable to an open border policy when they see the negative impact on their own lives. This is already becoming apparent in the wages earned by folks in construction. A decade ago a carpenter could demand $14 an hour. Today (largely because of illegal immigrants) the wage is more like $7 per hour. You can't live on $7 an hour, but you could on $14. Most illegal imigrants aren't in the fields a migrant workers. They're in the skyscrapers doing construction!
The Republican Party just left me....its time to start The American Party....
this Country is going into the tank...sorry..
Very sad indeed.
"Let's hope he recruits GOP candidates who can win election in BLUE states. What a novelty, huh?"
Interesting comment. Reagan won in most blue states, while Romney will not carry his own MA.
What a touchy little group! Any disagreement with your views - unless accompanied with great grovelling and apologies - and you haul yourselves up to your full 4'3" and start right in citing your length of time as FReepers, etc. You know who you are!
Romney's the GOP nominee? Who knew?
I'm not touchy at all. You're just rude and snarky. I am almost convinced you're a troll.
