Weather Channel Climate Expert Calls for Decertifying Global Warming Skeptics
United States Senate ^ | 1/17/07 | Marc Morano

Posted on 01/17/2007 6:05:23 PM PST by Pontiac

The Weather Channel’s most prominent climatologist is advocating that broadcast meteorologists be stripped of their scientific certification if they express skepticism about predictions of manmade catastrophic global warming. This latest call to silence skeptics follows a year (2006) in which skeptics were compared to "Holocaust Deniers" and Nuremberg-style war crimes trials were advocated by several climate alarmists.

The Weather Channel’s (TWC) Heidi Cullen, who hosts the weekly global warming program "The Climate Code," is advocating that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) revoke their "Seal of Approval" for any television weatherman who expresses skepticism that human activity is creating a climate catastrophe.

"If a meteorologist can't speak to the fundamental science of climate change, then maybe the AMS shouldn't give them a Seal of Approval. Clearly, the AMS doesn't agree that global warming can be blamed on cyclical weather patterns," Cullen wrote in her December 21 weblog on the Weather Channel Website. [Note: It is also worth taking a look at the comments section at the bottom of Cullen’s blog, very entertaining.] See: http://climate.weather.com/blog/9_11396.html This latest call to silence skeptics of manmade global warming has been the subject of discussion at the annual American Meteorological Society’s Annual conference in San Antonio Texas this week. See: http://www.ametsoc.org/meet/annual

"It's like allowing a meteorologist to go on-air and say that hurricanes rotate clockwise and tsunamis are caused by the weather. It's not a political statement...it's just an incorrect statement," Cullen added. [Note to Cullen: As the resident ‘climate expert’ at TWS, you should know that Hurricanes in the Southern Hemisphere do rotate clockwise. Also, Cullen and the media have ignored the growing climate skepticism by prominent scientists see: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=E58DFF04-5A65-42A4-9F82-87381DE894CD ]

Cullen’s call for decertification of TV weatherman who do not agree with her global warming assessment follows a year (2006) in which the media, Hollywood and environmentalists tried their hardest to demonize scientific skeptics of manmade global warming. Scott Pelley, CBS News 60 Minutes correspondent, compared skeptics of global warming to "Holocaust deniers" and former Vice President turned foreign lobbyist Al Gore has repeatedly referred to skeptics as "global warming deniers." "I don't think anyone who has looked at the evidence will say that global warming isn't happening."

Global warming IS NOT occurring. Please post all charts and data sources to support your position that it is. You made an unsupported and unfounded statement that it is occurring.

Yes is is a general cycle but when taken in the context of WORLD history, not summer two years ago, it is not happening.

Please post your data for all to see. Oh, and I fixed your spelling of the word "happening" in the statement you made and I quoted above. Spell check is your friend.

"Rush was the guy on the radio everyday after school complaining about this or that lol."

A lot of liberals also take commentary as "complaining". Facts don't matter just that you feel like they do.

So do you still find his commentary "complaining"?

"When weather readers"

Sadly, I believe she has a doctorate in meteorology. At least that is what another poster her said when they also commented that she left the Weather Channel and now works at CNN.

Just a curiosity question....

When you say "lose", do you mean that they have to be removed?

Or does it mean that you just won't get oranges from them this year?

Both are critical free speech issues, but I think they are part of a larger agenda with tentacles even out to issues like "The Final Solution" style starvation murder of Terri Schiavo.

Knowing how much error can result from minor changes over a relatively short forecast period, how much error can you expect from data which is slightly better than a blind guess.

I am a simple layman and I figured that out years ago. Why can’t a women with multiple college degrees?

I often believe my predictions for our local storms and snows is better than from professionals.

I ran into a website that rated all the forecasts from the major services, and the government did the best by far. That's what I use and it's almost always right. The weather people on TV are mostly hacks.

Most people seem surprised when we say current levels are relatively low, at least from a long-term perspective

The long downtrend from the Cambrian makes sense. A lot of biological organisms sucked CO2 out of the atmosphere and got subducted into the crust over that timespan.

I don't have cable anymore (so TWC doesn't get a dime from me even if I'm NOT watching).

But when I did, I forever tuned out on The Weather Channel when I was stuck inside in Houston during Hurrican Allison and the reports were four hours minimum out of date.

Worthless. You are on your own if you are in a disaster.

They show some weather. But you can get that from the internet. But old people seem to find it calming. Especially if the coverage has nothing to do with learning about weather forecasts in their area.

When I say global warming I just mean a warming trend that has occured over the past couple decades, and 20-50 years from now we could enter a period of global cooling.

Houston just ran the impending Ice Storm for 5 days of round the clock hype (we are talking 20 minutes of a 30 minute newscast). We froze up today (but were always told how it was coming in early and then "late").

But it makes for good ratings. Just like the old cliffhanger serials a the movie theaters.

We must be about the same age.
