Minimun Wage Exceptions by Nancy Pelosi
KFI | 1/12/07 | KFI

Posted on 01/12/2007 7:14:45 AM PST by off-roader

Heard on the radio this morning that the federal minimum wage increase the house passed affects every state and territory except American Somoa. The largest employer on American Somoa is StarKist tuna. Their home office is in Nancy Pelosi's district. How could she have over looked this injustice on the poor people of American Somoa. Or was she taking care of big business in her backyard?

"The reason the Democrats give is that Samoa's economy is too weak to handle the wage increase."

I read this morning that the minimum wage in American Samoa is $3.60 per hour! You would have least thought that the Dems would have raised it to the current federal 'standards'....(rolling eyes)

I just wrote to my Senators urging them to vote against the Minimum Wage Bill, but also asked them to add an amendment which would include American Samoa in this increase making them aware of the StarKist information.

The U.S. minimum wage laws have never applied in American Samoa, the minimum is set by the Department of Labor.

You would be correct about the laws not applying to America Samoa in the past, but they never applied to the Mariannas islands before, either. Now, the Dems have added the Mariannas Islands, but excluded Samoa.
This is crooked politics, end of story, let's not try to dance around it, please.

Don't know, but it would be the swiss bank deposits, not the political donations I would look for.

Let's hear her rail against earmarks soon. The call for comity must have been misunderstood by the RATs as a call for comedy, cause they sure are providing it :) at taxpayer expense :(

We need to stop buying Starkist Tuna.
The MSM won't say anything bad about MA Pelosi. Can't say anything bad about a nursing grandma.

Pelosi, winner of the 2003 Cesar Chavez award from the United Farm Workers, hires only nonunion workers and sells these grapes to nonunion wineries.

UFW members need not apply at the Pelosi family vineyards.

Which makes Pelosi's steadfast opposition to any attempts to enhance border security and stem the flow of illegal immigration into the U.S. all the more interesting since she seems to be among those rich employers who financially benefit from a steady supply of cheap foreign labor.

Here is a snippet from the Washington Times article here:

Some Republicans who voted in favor of the minimum-wage bill were particularly irritated to learn yesterday -- after their vote -- that the legislation did not include American Samoa.

I’m particularly irritated that our senators vote on bill’s that they don’t read! These A$$holes have no clue what they are voting “yes” on! I’m almost shocked.

Her husband ''just happens'' to own a big chunk of land which used to belong to the Federal Government (us taxpayers): Hunters Point Naval Shipyards.

Her protégé, Gavin Newsom, current Mayor of San Francisco, is trying to strike up a deal where the San Francisco 49ers will get that land and stay in the city, rather than moving to Santa Clara and building a new stadium down there.

But there seems to be some problem with the Naval shipyard being a Superfund cleanup site.

Stand by for developments as the blinkless wonder simultaneously cleans up corruption in Congress, and finds a way around this ''Inconvenient Truth.''

I'm irritated to learn our idiot Congresscritters voted for this WITHOUT READING IT, or more importantly, voting for it WITHOUT TAX BREAKS for small businesses.
