Lawmaker mugged in CVS parking lot

Indiana state Senator Sue Errington is recovering after getting robbed at gunpoint Monday night.

It happened around 9:30 pm at the CVS at 56th and Illinois. Senator Errington, a Democrat from Muncie, said she had just bought a gallon of milk when two men attacked her in the parking lot.

"One of them grabbed my purse and said, 'Let it go, let it go,' because I was trying to hang on to it. But then I looked up at his face and what I saw was a gun and that's when I let go. And he had a companion, who then tried to get the jug of milk. It was a gallon of milk. And I held onto that and he let go and punched me in the eye," she said.

Errington needed stiches above her right eye. She suffered a minor fracture on her face but won't need surgery.

Errington says the robbery proves crime can happen to anyone, anywhere.

She was just elected to her first term in November.

I'd guess that she was beaten by her lover and is using the "crime" story to cover that incident as well as give her some clout for some anti-gun legislation.

It won't matter a whit -- she's a NOW member, so it's not the nature of the evidence that matters, it's the seriousness of the charge.

Her story is VERY believable. We have had an upsurge in crime in Indianapolis, and this area is one which has upper income residents but is very close to high crime areas.

Lots of problems in this area. It is near Butler University and the Governor's mansion.
