I've clambered around on a few California coastal cliffs, and there's a lot of loose gravel. The cliffs aren't solid rock, either. I can see an accidental fall occurring fairly easily.

Ever noticed how they never seem to die at the top of the cliff?

that is a jumper cliff Yes. I worked in the LAPD's Harbor Division (San Pedro/Wilmington) in the 70's. I saw several suicides off the cliffs in that area.
To: geopyg
The authorities KNOW this as a jumper cliff? It should have been bulldozed long ago to prevent an accident/suicide/murder."The authorities know that the Golden Gate Bridge is a jumper bridge because they only have 4 feet rails. I heard the other day how many suicides are commited off that bridge and it boggles the mind. Do you think they will make the rails higher. NO!

Prayers going out to his family, as well as his coach and teammates.
When you hear about such a tragedy, it puts it all in perspective.

Would you also have the Golden Gate Bridge dismantled? From what I understand there averages about a suicide a week from there.
To: ExtremeUnction
For his family's sake, I hope not.
This is so sad.

If you bulldozed every cliff you could jump from in southern california, you'd be busy for a logn, long time. LOL. Great news for Caterpillar! The Nanny State strikes again. There are plenty of "jumper cliffs" from San Diego to Canada.

from link:
Danelo, the 21-year-old son of former NFL kicker Joe Danelo, made 15 of 16 field goals this season and led the Trojans in scoring with 89 points. The junior made two field goals in the Rose Bowl on Monday to help USC beat Michigan 32-18.
Speaking on behalf of Trojans coach Pete Carroll, USC spokesman Tim Tessalone said: "We were stunned to hear about this tragedy. This is a great loss. Mario was a wonderful young man of high character.
"He was one heck of a kicker. He was a key ingredient in our success the past two years. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Trojan family go out to the Danelo family on this sad, sad day."

Should we bulldoze the world flat cause someone wants to committ suicide? That reasoning sounds just like those who think banning firearms to prevent suicide is a good idea. Have you ever considered that they will just pick another way. It is called subsitution. Plus if someone wants to really committ suicide you can not prevent it.

Do you think they will make the rails higher. NO!The Golden Gate Bridge District -- the private agency that runs the bridge, ferries, and buses that cross the bridge -- is a criminally bloated and inefficient organization. For decades, they have sat on their hands while head-on collisions kill and maim motorists on the bridge and on the S.F. road on the approach, both of which have middle lanes that change direction in commute hours and are marked only by flimsy yellow rubber pylons. If they can't come up with solutions for accidents on the bridge, they sure won't come up with a way to prevent suicides!

It's pretty steep there and crumbly. And a very rocky beach. How sad.

Do you think it matters? Another two feet of rail isn't going to stop someone who wants to kill themselves.
