God rest his soul.
Not a good year for football players, so far.
Was this this kicker recently cut and expelled, or his replacement?
Is this a park, fell while hiking or rock climbing?
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information yet, but the article stated he had a good record, so I wouldn't think he had been replaced.
I'm guessing it was a climbing accident.
Holy crap, how awful.
I'll join you in prayers for the family.
Very sad, I join you in prayer for his family. Very curious about what happened, though; the story gives no details.
that is a jumper cliff
This is what I could find on the cliff:

wow. Very sad. I pray for his family as well. Man. Life is so short for some. He started at USC when I did. Kinda hits home that way. Looks as though he had a predetermined future otherwise . . . just goes to show, nothing is for sure. God bless and rest his soul.
Okay. so he missed a few. Jeez - that's no reason to have him killed!
Sad NCAA news
The authorities KNOW this as a jumper cliff? It should have been bulldozed long ago to prevent an accident/suicide/murder.
Rest in Peace for this young man.
Isn't there an inordinate amount of these guys dying?
How sad. Prayers for his family.
Neither. You're thinking of Troy Van Blarcom, who kicked off and kicked extra-long field goals. His GPA was below 2.00 for the third straight semester, so he was "automatically dismissed from the university."
Mario Danelo was the regular placekicker, the son of NFL kicker Joe Danelo. Whether his two PAT misses in the Rose Bowl last week might have led to despondency is, probably, a possibility.
A disturbed theater student from the NC School of the Arts jumped off a cliff on the mountain behind my parents' house when I was a teenager. It was eerie, with the spotlights, rescue crews and helicopters. You couldn't bulldoze that thing, it's about 300 feet of quartzite.
