Critics say Social Security deal would give billions to Mexicans
Houston Chronicle ^ | 1/4/2007 | MICHELLE MITTELSTADT

WASHINGTON — A confidential 2004 agreement between the United States and Mexico could require Social Security to pay billions of dollars in benefits to Mexicans who paid payroll taxes in this country, according to a senior citizens' group that forced the document's disclosure.

The Social Security Administration insists that the agreement — which has yet to be signed by President Bush and sent to Congress for consideration — would cost the retirement and disability fund a relatively scant $105 million annually for the first five years.

But the TREA Senior Citizens League, an offshoot from a group of retired military personnel, and some members of Congress contend the agreement opens the door to paying benefits to millions of Mexicans who have worked illegally in the United States, as well as their dependents, even if they now reside in Mexico.

Sen. Cornyn on Fox&Friends says this bill isn't going to happen.

Then he adds the disclaimer, "unless Congress approves it."

Americans are required to pay in 40 quarters to qualify for full benefits. Foreigners can pay in 18 month to qualify for full benefits.

[Cornyn, IIRC, stated shortly after the border fence bill passed that the fence would never be built.]

Cornyn, "I would be shocked and amazed if Congress approved this [SS] bill."

[Yeh? Congress (as in Senate) didn't mind passing that atrocious comprehensive immigration bill (a.k.a. amnesty for illegals for those in Rio Linda) last session.]

It should be called just what it really is, "Socialism".

"Compassionate Socialism", but Socialism none the less.

One more reason I regret our party put Bush as our choice, he is just like his dad, or maybe worse.

Now we are going to take our retirement "assistance" and pay illegals to break our laws. Makes sense to me

would cost the retirement and disability fund a relatively scant $105 million annually for the first five years.

Considering the Bush Admin's inability to even come close to cost predictions (and he earned an MBA?), that $105 million will probably end up being several times higher.

I recall, that the Prescription Drug bill was supposed to cost around $380B. Three days after it passed, ooopps, they meant around $534B. And within a few months, he hehe, they actually meant closer to $720B.

Then this from the Washington Post:

The White House released budget figures yesterday [February 8, 2005] indicating that the new Medicare prescription drug benefit will cost more than $1.2 trillion in the coming decade... source WP link

Uhhhhh, it's the other way around.

You should be praying that the Dems don't give into President Bush who won't use his veto pen.

On this 'treaty' Congress can take no action until AFTER the President (Bush) signs it. Then Congress may (not required) approve or disapprove or do nothing.

And this 'treaty' originated in the Executive branch.

Stop paying all taxes, by zero withholding deductions and all mailing their returns to one IRS location on the 14th. Jam them up

This is so obviously wrong, I am flabbergasted that anyone with an ounce of common sense would do anything but laugh at the thought.

How on earth did we get to this point? Do our political leaders really believe that the American citizenry can continue to monetarily give, give, give to Mexicans, to Africans with Aids, to 3rd world countries, to tsunami victims, to earthquake victims, to drought victims???

The Congress (and I'm afraid, Bush now) don't give a rat's a$$ about taxpayers anymore. They are settled in their own little untouchable towers now. They vote themselves raises every year or more. Vote themselves more and more perks and benefits. I am sick of it all - just sick of it.

How can we the people start to fix this mess? Or is it fixable before the whole country slips down a sewer? Maybe our dear USA should collapse and be rebuilt. And we should forceably exile every dang Congressmen currently in office to Mexico, Africa, whatever their favorite 3rd world country of choice they would like.

I'm speechless.

Ironically(? or intentionally), this 'treaty' was kept quiet by the Executive Branch (Bush Administration) just like the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America Prosperity Agenda.

[Why does Bush feel he owes so much to Mexico and illegal will all of his Hispanandering?]

True. But when Jedi Master Pikachu called it a "more reliable source" I had to clean the coffee from my keyboard!

How does the Social Security Administration know who these lucky recipients are or even if they qualify for the payments?

I posed a similar query in an earlier thread on this issue.

I suppose the SS will just trust them to sign an affidavit stating they have worked the required time.

It would be easier just to annex Mexico; this adoption of Mexicans is getting expensive for American taxpayers.

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you, they will destroy your neighborhood, your city and ultimately this entire country and we are allowing them to take over. W H Y ????

Because they can. Americans no longer get out there in masses and protest anything. We are too worried about our own little lives and too busy to react. We expect these fools we elect to do the job for us. Only problem is; they are in it for themselves. Everything we hate so much will happen because we will do nothing. The best we all do anymore is bitch and moan.

*****Is there any difference between the Republicans and Democrats any more, besides the name?!******

Well Republicans go before the ethics committee and get found guilty and the Demorats gets found innocent ,no matter what the charges are. Thats about the only difference I see.

Vote in a Republican House. Oppps. Did that; didn't work. [Prescription Drug Bill, et al]

Vote in a Republican President. Oppps. Did that; didn't work.

Vote in a Republican Senate. Oppps. Did that; didn't work. [CFR, Comprehensive Immigration Bill, et al]

Some of you people obviously don't get the typing-style. While the comment could have been clearer, read the tagline accompanying both it, and this post. Clear things up?
