STATEMENT OF THE SELIGMANN FAMILY [on Duke deciding Reade can return]
http://hometown.aol.com/VIP%20PASSES/Seligmann_Family_Statement.pdf ^ | 1/3/07 | Seligmann Family

The past nine months have been a very difficult time for our family. We are grateful and appreciative to those who have supported us during this time, and particularly grateful [for] the outpouring of support that we have received from Duke alumni.

We appreciate the recent comments by Duke University President Broadhead, questioning the basis for the remaining charges against Reade and Mr. Nifong's conduct in ever bringing these charges. We are also glad that Duke University has now made it clear that Reade is welcome to return to the University and look forward to the day that he can return to living a normal life and continuing his education as a full-time student.

By now it should be plain to any person who has any objectivity that the charges against Reade are transparently false. Reade is absolutely innocent and we will continue to fight this injustice. We are not going to rest until Reade's good name has been cleared and those who have been responsible for this injustice have been held fully accountable.

They should sue, big time -- Duke, the DA/state, Jesse Jackson.

They deserve any $$$ they can get for what Nifong and associates put them through.

I agree. This young man - as well as the other two - will be wealthy, retired and playing golf in very expensive gated communities by the time they are 25. If Nifong isn't in jail - where he belongs - he'll be selling shoes with Al Bundy.

Right , with the first shoe hitting the ground ( state bar flame letter to nifong ) the veil protecting this cheap suit will be easier to cut through .

Besides Nifongwongbong and the liberal media that tried and convicted these kids in the press, the liberal fools running Duke should be thrown out and sued. Duke itself should pay a hefty price also for convicting these kids and listening to the likes of liberal groups on campus, and the ever present race baiters that jumped on the wagon for publicity.

Innocent until proven guilty in the USA?? Not if you are white, or in the military, or in law enforcement, or Christian, or conservative, or Republican, or a successful business person, or a successful American company.

Liberals do not believe in innocent until proven guilty unless it is one of their own. Then they will whine, bitch, scream INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILY. Well, it either is true for all, or none.

Don't hold your breath. Remember we are talking about liberals here. Liberals do NOT believe in applying justice evenly.

In the liberal mind liberals like Nifongwongbong "just made a mistake and should be forgiven", conveniently ignoring his blatant abuse of power, his transparent use of this case to get re-elected, and ruining the reputation and good name of INNOCENT kids.

Now, if Nifongwongbong were a Republican they would be calling for his execution.

f the case gets to Day #1 in court, then
Nifong cannot be sued. But the citizens
of North Carolina could sure be in for a
big hit! I heard this on FoxNews about
5 a.m. today. Judge Napolitano.

On the brightside, we have a new English word-

Lacrosse players `Nifonged' -- New verb describes trumping up charges on flimsy evidence

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/news/opinion/16332658.htm

Given recent events in Durham concerning the alleged Duke University lacrosse "rape" case, it is now possible to declare parody dead. How does one parody a parody?

All is not lost, however. We can celebrate the addition of a new verb to our American lexicon -- "Nifong." When the moment calls for activities that need no elaboration, we already "Bobbitt," "Bork" and "Lewinsky." Now we can "Nifong" someone when we want to trump up criminal charges based on flimsy evidence allegedly for political purposes. In short, when we want to screw up someone's life.

Bravo!

Ditto's on the Bravo. ..

This family is a 'class act' so to speak.

Duke's premature response to this 'crime'; was not. . .

Under the circumstances, this is a very reasoned, mature, and classy statement by the Seligmann family.

Had I been in their position, I would have told the Dook President exactly where to put his invitation for Reade to return to classes, and it's a place where the Sun never shines.

Brodhead was very eager to hang the three Duke lacrosse players out to dry.

He's done it before in New Haven... always eager to throw a student under the bus.

Nifong has done something incredible. The list of people who are against him comes from different political spectrum: Ann Coulter, Susan Estrich, Thomas Sowell, NC ABA, his fellow DAs in NC... Even the black 'leaders' such as Rev. Al, Jesse, etc., are not that loud anymore. Neither are the liberal professors and Duke administration.

I would probably have issued a press release with the picture of a middle finger.

...Reade is welcome to return to the University and look forward to the day that he can return to living a normal life...

How far forward is that day? He is marked forever. I can understand Nifong's conduct. He is just a sleazy politician who happens to be a District Attorney. We all expect those kind of people to do anything to keep their jobs. What about the Duke University President and others who were so quick to jump on Nifong's bandwagon and treat these men as guilty? We should expect better of them. Nifong and his band of supporters should all be discredited and prosecuted where possible.

Schadenfreude. I never really appreciated the nuances of this word until I beheld the burgeoning fallout from this incident. I LOVE to see liberals hoisted on the petard of Political Correctness, racial identity politics, gender determinint feminism and what I have coined as "Tawana Brawley Syndrome".

TBS exists when one takes a historical reality such as the marginalization of innocent blacks within a once overtly racist crminal justice syndrome or the past subjagation of women or any number of other offenses and attempts to apply that to a contemporary situation wherein the objective facts don't apply; ala OJ Simpson, Rodney King, Anita Hill etc.

Nifong was not only hoping to ride to re-election a wave of politically motivated outrage from the Black community over this contretemps, but I suspect that he was seeking to appropriate PC bonus points and obtain instant moral authority by championing the cause of the "other" (marginalized black exotic dancer) against racist male chauvinist members of the privliged white elite. A case of cultural Marxist Class warfare that boomeranged. GOD how I love it so!!!!!

Methinks Duke invited them back hoping to avoid a lawsuit. Hope they sue for the whole darn university.

What about the other two students?

David Evans has already graduated, and Colin Finnerty was invited to return along with Reade Seligmann. Duke must know it really screwed up.

Just wait until the Stuart Taylor-KC Johnson book about this outrage comes out. I predict it will be made into a movie and that it will take Duke about 10 years to fully get its reputation back.
