BOSTON --Lawmakers in Massachusetts, the only state where gay marriage is legal, on Tuesday voted to advance a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, a critical step toward putting the measure the 2008 ballot.

This isn't over yet folks. The legislatures are now trying to reconsider the question and the vote, and they are now trying to get a majority of pro-gay marriage legislatures to "twist enough arms" to get the next vote to be less than 50 legislatures who are for the '08 ballot question. If the next vote does end up taking place and not enough legislatures (less than 50 legislatures) for for the '08 ballot question, then the legislatures will say that they didn't break any laws and then go home!
Somehow...someway....they'll kill it.
If the pro-family amendment survives this session, it's crucial that we analyze the districts carefully and do concerted grass-roots organizing in the 80 or more districts that are 'in play', where a representative that votes against traditional marriage can be dumped by the voters. It's especially important in since we're losing some pro-family reps from this last election. The degenerate lobby only prevails if our citizens remain disengaged.
Ironically, the automatic pay raise comes from a Ballot Initiative Question, much like the one they have been violating the State Constitution to avoid voting on.
Shhhh!!! There are Freepers on another thread that are trying to make the case that Romney actually supports gay marriage and his support of this constitutional amendment is phony. Careful, they might be introduced to reality!
Deval Patrick is governor now and he lobbied against this vote
Senator Hedlund, where I am, is about the only Reagan-Republican left in the Senate. I don't think that there are many vulnerable libs anywhere. I don't know if it's the cannabis/college-crowdk, but Western/Central Mass that should be conservative is only marginally more so than the rest of the state.
