The President and First Lady spent the New Year weekend at their ranch in Crawford Texas returning today to Washington where they paid their respects to former President Ford whose body is laying in State in the Rotunda. Later on he and the First lady visited Mrs Ford at Blair House.
The President's father also paid his respects to President Ford today as did Donald Rumsfeld
On Saturday Vice President Cheney attended and spoke at the State Funeral of Gerald Ford
Enjoy your bonus visit to Sanity Island
Great shots! Thanks for the pics!
SEEE NORM come on and over to Daily dose you learn something I was going DAMN Rummy was hottie back in da day
Whoa Mary start show if you know what I mean Snugs
Happy New Year, snugs.
You've been BUSY today. A year, and, a day of Dose threads. Thanks so much for all your hard work. I'm enjoying it.
It did me, too. They are sooooo in love...just like GW and Laura!
It's nice to have people in high places who actually love their spouses and stay with them!
In this photo, in addition the GHWB and Barbara, I see former Secretary of State James Baker and former Senator Alan Simpson. Simpson was on a local talk radio show about two weeks ago, talking about the Iraq Study Group and GWB's rejection of their report. Simpson was saying that he doesn't understand why GWB is being "so stubborn" about Iraq. Among other things, Simpson said he "watched that boy grow up," and he "never used to be that way."
I have a very strong opinion about what I believe to be a severe betrayal of GWB by...well, let's just say people who held government jobs during Bush 41's time in office. I have never expressed my full opinion about this here on FR, and probably never will. Also, I realize the photo has to do with honoring a dead president. Still, my anger when I see Baker, Simpson and a number of others is difficult to hold back. They are the same people who helped sink Bush 41's chance at a 2nd term.
My prayers are with you, and your Mother. God Bless you both!
which is similar (perhaps even the same) as one you posted, where it looks like GWB is fighting tears. This, along with the photos from yesterday of the VP and Mrs. Cheney, and also the wonderful ones today of the Rumsfelds, show how much President Ford was respected and loved by these colleagues of his. They are so moving.
One has to wonder (or at least I did, anyway), if President Bush 41, at age 80+ sees all this and wonders about what will happen when he passes away. I would think it must cross his mind.
I also wondered about James Baker. Is his wife still living? I thought it was interesting that he was at the casket with the Bushes. I know they are very close friends, but I still thought it a little surprising.
Anyway, thank you so much for your work. A great Dose!
Congratulations, Jonny! I am so glad you won the first toaster of 2007!
It is indeed and sadly nowadays it seems it does not matter what walk of life you come from that loving and staying with your spouse is not high on the list.
if you look at the wider pix of that shot you will see Bar and Pres Bush 41, Jimmy and Susan Baker then Sen Simpson, Susan is very much alive and well
Thank you! Now that I look more carefully I certainly can see her. I appreciate you answering my question. :)
no problem:) also Mrs. Simpson is next to Sen Simpson she's even harder to see but she is there as well...
Wolfstar...that has always bothered me as well....but our President is his own man...remember he was there during alot of his father's presidency and saw what was going on...the loyalty in that family I understand as I have that same trait myself hence Baker and Scowcroft and some others being on the ISG...but I knew when I started hearing and reading the leaks of the report he would formally accept the report then file it in the circular file...he remembered what happened during the 1st Gulf War and will not make that same mistake his dad made...in this vein it is important to remember who led the legal team during the 2000 recount the very same Jimmy Baker that served on the ISG...the loyalty is there but isn't a blind loyalty
