The recent death of Taliban senior commander Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani, was apparently the result of British and American intelligence troops connecting Osmani to a specific satellite phone, and then using that to locate Osmani and kill him with a smart bomb. A British electronic reconnaissance aircraft monitored satellite telephone traffic over the area, so that when Osmani made a call, his location was quickly found and tracked.
Taliban and al Qaeda members are well aware of the risks of using cell or satellite phones. But they are greatly restricted if they do not use wireless communications, and they try to mitigate the danger by talking in code words, and changing phones frequently. If the bad guys get sloppy with the codes, or changing phones, they will get nailed, like Osmani did. Often, identifying a terrorist phone will not lead to a smart bomb attack, but to monitoring the communications in order to obtain more information. But for major players like Osmani (the number three guy in the Taliban hierarchy) getting made was a death sentence.
Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy!
I love happy endings, especially around this time of year.
Maybe so, but your kids can't count on the Dinosaur Media giving them your secrets for keeping tabs on them, either.
And now that it's once again being broadcast acros the 'net, it'll be so much the harder to get these guys.
I jut wish they hadn't given the details of how we got him.
There was some question last week as to whether they really got him. Has it been confirmed?
I'd like to reach out and touch a terrorist with a .50cal sniper rifle.
Let's reach out and touch a few more of these creeps.

His wife probably calling him to bring something home for dinner.
Double edge sword here. By letting the cat out of the bag as far as methods, it does a little harm. BUT, the bad guys already know we try to track their cell phone calls, which is why they constantly change phones, sim cards, and speak in code. On the other hand, if they can't use wireless communications to co-ordinate their people, it is much more difficult to mount an attack on our guys. They can't just have a convoy of 20 pickups go to a spot and then set an ambush, we would spot that very quickly. They have to communicate in real time to be a serious threat, and if they are too afraid (with good reason) to use their phones or other wireless devices, they are much lesss effective as a fighting force.
"He was hit by a precision airstrike. The vehicle was destroyed and all the occupants were obliterated," Collins said. "We checked various sources, and we are very, very sure it was him."
Osmani had been captured by U.S. special forces in 2002 in Kandahar but was released by mistake, Collins said.
Osmani was identified through forensic analysis but not DNA tests, Collins said. The type of analysis performed was classified.
Combined Forces Command - Afghanistan issued a press release on December 23, 2006 to confirm the kill. I would say they are very confident they got Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani.
The kids are fatal ,too, often to people on motorcycles or just themselves.
I wonder when we'll hear the left squaking about violating his right to privacy...
I wonder if he was on Cingular or Verizon?.......
LOL!!!!.........Allahtel network.....
