Football and country music.
Whisky, BBQ and Free Republic.
Works for me. (And it's better than anything French.)

No modern American politician would dare be so sniffy about country music. On the other hand, it's a whole lot better than it used to be. I can just about remember it in the 1950s and the chorus of every song seemed to be:
Oh Lord,
I'm so sorry
For myself.
The funny thing is that, kid that I was, I liked it. Which is now a little embarrassing.

Good article that is very true. I do have to make one minor correction:
"So you can let yourself go on Saturday night without much risk that you'll wind up in hospital and unable to drive the kids to school on Monday morning. Country folk are sensible, mostly."
That should read "and unable to drive your kids to church on Sunday Morning".

Suit yourself, but the Country-Western singers are the only ones likely to make up a song about that.

Country is a very wide definition, goes from hillbilly to folk style ballads. Some I love, some I can't stand. More than anything else, it tends to be music that tells stories, which I tend to like in whatever genre.

Excellent article. I was never into country music but since moving back from Los Angeles I've become addicted to it. Yet, it's not the true, pure country music as in the past. That I didn't care for so much. I'll take Gretchen Wilson over Britney Spears, and, JoeDon Rooney (yum) over any of the male singers any day!

Homos like Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney, and liberals like Faith and Tim don't tell me about middle America's soul.

Ok, I have to post this old country music joke:
What do you get when you play country music backwards?
You get your wife back, your dog back and your truck back. :)

I love C/W, but not the crap Nashville is sticking us with.
Th ecurrents I like are Worley, Trace Adkins, Strait, Alan Jackson and a couple of others. I do not like the ones I mentioned in the previous post for obvios reasons.
