Well since you want to stick to the "facts", the article does not say the dog was shot outside the fence. That detail is omitted. So right now it is not a "fact".

From the article:

Two officers said they ran to the street and that the dog lunged at the second officers, who fired three shots.

I agree with you that the situation as you describe it is bad. You're right on another post. We don't know all of the facts. For all we know, there was an invisible fence or nothing at all. Still...the officer fired his weapon in what could be a suburban neighborhood and he is lucky he didn't shoot more than the family dog.

As a former postal "worker" may I commend you for your common sense concerning dogs.

An alternative dream is that the people see the letter carrier coming down the road and they shoot their own dogs dead before he gets there and reaches out his hand to get bitten off at the wrist.

Bet you thought everybody here would think that a sarcastic comment didn't you?! (ROTFLMAO)

There are also people that defend the police no matter what they do. Are there no bad cops?

Jeez, you had a very kind hearted dad. I wouldn't have put up with a dog like that.

"...no one was arrested."

So the cops got off again.

This is the crap that makes me question my support for the local constabulary.
This and the raid they pulled on me when I dialed 911.

I really doubt you are "rolling on the floor laughing your ass off". If you were you would not be able to type at your keyboard.

Formal postal worker?

Failed the psych test huh?

Cops won't be fired. However, the town/city will probably foot the bill for a St. Bernard puppy.

You have your little 12 year old daughter in the front yard with the dog and an officer fires 3 rounds at the dog.

No warrant.

Hmmm.

Something tells me you'd be on the phone NOW with several sleezebag lawyers finding out what the best deal you can get 'cause you got a live one on the line.

The initial complaint was suspicion of having firearms. Not a loose dog. But don't let facts slow you down...

A local blogger recalled these events from last week in my town. The cop should get a commendation:

"From our upstairs window, we saw a police car parked in front of our house with the spotlight trained on our door. Ringing the bell was an officer clutching his 12-gauge. The officer apologized for the early wake-up call and explained that a neighbor thought a pit bull terrorizing the neighborhood might be ours. The still-unceasing yapping of our mixed-breeds proved otherwise.

Just then, the aforementioned pit bull came tearing around the corner; the officer asked, then quickly entered our house. The dog's ribs were showing clearly through its skin as it jumped up, pawing at the storm door. And that's how we found ourselves, three grown adults, trapped inside a house by a hungry pit bull.

Eventually, my husband distracted the dog by pounding on a window just long enough for the officer to stick a huge bowl of kibble on the door stoop. We hoped the food would keep the dog occupied until animal control could save the day, but no such luck; the kibble was gone and the dog was back to barking in record time.

After 20 or so minutes and a dozen apologies, the officer snuck out of our house through the backyard, climbed on top of his cruiser and lured the dog into his backseat."

But why is it that people always assume the worst of the police?

Personal experience.

That's the way it should be done if possible. There are too many with a hard on for killing something.

It only took a few times until he put the dog out first.

Two officers said they ran to the street and that the dog lunged at the second officers, who fired three shots.

"To the street" as in "towards, away from the house" not "in the street." You have to cross the plane of the goal line for it to count.

Not all police officers should be police officers. Just like in any professions there are good ones and bad.

I have a friend in rural Colorado. He, his wife, and his dad were tending a fire they had burning in a 50 gallon burn barrel behind their house. A deputy sherrif stopped by to check out the smoke, but no one knew he was there. He came walking around the house. Their dog, a champion, well trained German Shepard trotted over to check him out, not aggressively, no barking or growling, just trotted over. The deputy drew his revolver and shot the dog dead.

Just for the record, it had to be the back yard, since there was a sign.

Warrant? They don't always need a warrant.

"Something tells me you'd be on the phone NOW with several sleezebag lawyers finding out what the best deal you can get 'cause you got a live one on the line."

You should get your ESP checked because you are WRONG on all counts.
