Anti-Violence Activist Indicted (money laundering, cocaine trafficking)

A woman at the forefront of Rochester's anti-violence movement for more than two decades, has been indicted on federal charges.
Juliet Anderson, 73, faces three counts of money laundering.
Federal prosecutors say she used hundreds of thousands of dollars that she knew was drug money, to build a home in Orleans County.
Prosecutors say Anderson got the more than $200,000 in cash that she gave to builders from her grandsons.
Four of them are named in the same indictment as Anderson.
They're accused of being involved in a major cocaine trafficking network.
The heads of many agencies Anderson was actively involved in, like Friends and Family of Murdered Children and Victims of Violence and the Urban League of Rochester say they are shocked by the charges and are in disbelief.
"It doesn't take away from her volunteerism and the fact that she has worked for the betterment of this community,” Urban League President and CEO Bill Clark said, “I just don't believe it's true. If it's true, then there's gonna be a lot of people in this community that's gonna be in absolute shock."
Anderson's attorney says there are innocent explanations as to where his client got the money.
He says they will come out later in court.

Anderson's attorney says there are innocent explanations as to where his client got the money. He says they will come out later in court. Translation: "We have no idea how we're going to defend this case. We're going to try and come up with something before the trial. Right now, we're leaning toward "She found the money in an abandoned freezer and Finders = Keepers".
We know that's weak, so we'll probably play the Race Card. We have already contacted the Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam to provide us with security services."

I thought the IRS looked for that sort of thing.
Hence, my comment about using the hose as a base, thus (badly) covering her tracks - so to speak.

They presumbably have proof the money came from an illegal transaction. Just because the money is drug-tainted does not make it illegal per se. Most currency in circulation has been found to have some cocaine residue on it.

I also wonder why every time I hand a bill over $5 to the clerk, they run the counterfeit check pen over the bill. Something going on that I missed?
I'm so paranoid now, I make the bank lady "pen check" the bills in front of me before I'll accept them......
