Churchill's grandson compares the 1930s and now
CNN Glenn Beck ^ | December 19, 2006 | Glenn Beck interview

Posted on 12/19/2006 9:18:04 PM PST by Ooh-Ah

CHURCHILL: ... last week, the British Foreign Office issued an injunction to Mr. Blair and British ministers that they mustn`t anymore refer to the war on terror, because that might give offense to the Muslims.

Now, I recall that in the 1930s, my grandfather was out front in condemning the dangers of the rise of Nazism in Germany and the threat that they posed to the whole world, and the British Foreign Office and the British Broadcasting Corporation said, "No, no, no, we mustn`t have any of this. It might make Herr Hitler angry."
...

CHURCHILL: If we continue down this road, if our will fails in Iraq, first of all, the Iraqis who have committed themselves to our side, their lives will be on the line.

Secondly, all the immediate neighbors of Iraq, our friends in Saudi Arabia, in the Gulf States, and Kuwait, they will have the skids put under them. And we will see develop in Iraq the base that is being denied the terrorists of Al Qaeda. They will re-establish what we deprived them of in Afghanistan.

And all the work of the last five or six years will be out the window. And they will have, as a training base, an operational base, the country with the fourth largest oil reserves in the world. And armed with those petro-dollar billions, they will be able to foment a lot of terrorism around the world, including on the streets of the United States of America.

WINSTON CHURCHILL ON ISLAM - IN 1899!

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!
Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia
in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many
countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods
of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.

The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as
his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must
delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased
to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid
qualities - but the influence of the religion paralyses the social
development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists
in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and
proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa,
raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity
is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it
had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell
the civilization of ancient Rome."

-Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages
248-50 (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899).

As oft stated, those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it. Looks like we are again heading in the wrong direction regarding confronting evil in our time.

We in America are lovers of History and love repeating the juicy parts.

Your tagline would indicate otherwise. At least when it comes to your personal beliefs. Those who are doomed to repeating history will find chaos and blood running in our city streets because of their shortsightedness.

Dan Pipes, Sam Huntington, Paul Johnson, Bernard Lewis -- just to name a few have brilliantly, collectively framed the same issue vis-a-vis the post 9/11 era, relative to the threat of Islam to Christendom (Western Democracy).

I consider it shameful that probably less than 10% of our elected Congressmen even know who these gents are -- much less, even basically familiar with the core of the issue -- historically and culturally.

Further, I fear that this intellectual and moral vacuum on Capitol Hill poses the most serious threat to our Republic in the near term, for the Islamic calendar is so different from any measurement of time that a spoiled baby-boomer could even begin to grasp.

Therein, IMO, lies the biggest challenge to our ultimate survival -- the guts to garner and expend the moral capital necessary to confront this mortal challenge.

Rant over -- and a Merry Christmas to all.

As I've said before: 'where's Margaret Thatcher when we need him?'

... "I seem to smell the stench of appeasement in the air."

Bush may have miscalculated. The American people are far more self centered than he figured.

Nice to know the Churchills continue to stand up for the legacy of that great man. It's sad but I think the world is too far gone to ever make a recovery like we did from the 30's. Liberalism is a disease that is going to kill an awful lot of people all in the name of peace.

May I recommend that we each choose a book from one of the authors you recommend, or from others, such as a couple I add below, and send a book to each of our Congressmen and Senators.

Daniel Pipes

Samuel P. Huntington

Paul Johnson

Bernard Lewis

And to that I personally would add

Mark Steyn

Robert Spencer

And as you say, many others.

The way we can make a difference is to get books like these from recognized scholars into the hands of our elected representatives.  Around the time the incoming Democrat chair of the House Intelligence Committee was being embarrassed because he didn't know the difference between Shiite and Sunni, or to which group Al Qaeda belonged, another survey was done which indicated that virtually no members of Congress had read any books on the middle east or terrorism.
